Does it deserve the praise?
>>218210241it's a classic.
>>218210266A lot of shit movies are classics too. I'm asking if it deserves the 10/10 best movie ever made rating that critics and the audience currently rate it as. It's a very good movie and I also rate it 9/10 but there are at least 10 movies better than it. really I say it's the best Robert Mitchum movie
>>218210508I have no problem with anyone having it in their top 30, 50 or top 100. Honestly, not having it in their 200 can be seen as a sign of not having a fully developed taste. On the other hand, having it in the top 10 is really pushing it.Now, in terms of praise. I haven't really heard it being praised that much. Sure it was in the AFI top yadayadayad lists and its in the TSPDT top, and very often mentioned as a classic from the 50s, cementing Mitchum as a bad guy together with Cape Fear, but it's been a long time since I saw a push for it anywhere else than maybe here, mainly by /film/ around a decade ago. As such I'd say it does deserve the praise it gets.
>>218210993>why so you wonderIt's the package of the black/white-aethesticism in combination with a powerful performance by Mitchum (and the kids) and the classic wolf dressed as a lamb-story. You can tell it was crafted by hands who knew what they wanted to do and made sure to do it.
Having seen it for years but there are images thathave stayed with me ever since.
