She got fat for similar but more compelling reasons than you got fat for, and her cancer wasn't random she smoked two packs a day for 20 years and got black lungThis character and actress can be annoying and probably got too many subplots, and the shit with the showrunner's son is unwatchable on multiple levels, but it's good that she had her own path and wasn't just a wronged wife.
I feel sorry for Henry the mosthe was a great man, a great stepdad (better than Don was as a father), and a great husband for Bettytoo bad he only got to enjoy Don's sloppy seconds before she got cancer and left him with her three children

It's worth noting that Henry never once criticizes her for this and loves her unconditionally but it absolutely throws her into a personal identity crisis.Her dying young was planned early on according to Wiener. Her own mom died very young in the story although they never say from what. Betty's entire arc is about a rigid, old-fashioned person who cannot adapt and cope with a changing world, so her passing away young fits with that.
