Do you hate Midi-chlorians?
>>
a misguided and tonedeaf attempt to turn a fantasy series into sci-fi
>>
>>218211880
They're very dumb but I don't invest enough emotion into the star wars franchise to hate them
>>
>>218211880
I went off and they had to stop the phantom menace at the cinemas
>>
>>218211967
your IQ is under 100
>>
I remember someone saying the Force is fun because it makes you think that if you just believe hard enough, you could be that hero, and that midichlorians ruin it
Did boomers really think they might have magic powers?
>>
>>218212019
The Force us fun because it's a mysterious power, when you take mysterious occult abilities and quantify them in scientific terms, then they're basically just X-Men now
>>
>>218212019
>maybe you could be a Jedi!
>what do you mean the second movie's twist was that the hero was special because he shared blood with the bad guy?
>>
>>218212091
>then they're basically just X-Men now
kino
>>
>>218211880
No, in fact I wish they (and the Whills) were elaborated on more. There's this whole side to Star Wars that we never got to see.
>>
>>218211943
Why did this mindbreak boomers and gen Xers?
>>
>>218212118
but I don't want x-men I want gandalfs

As someone who's on the spectrum I want to state that there is no one more annoying than autists needing rules to explain everything magical. You people suck for trying to ruin fantastical stories

Imagine someone took the bible and started coming up with scientific explanations for everything

that's been done, many times

Imagine if someone took the mysteries of real life and started coming up with scientific explanations for everything. Then they'd find out there are these microscopic lifeforms called mitochondria within living cells that provide the energy for life to exist.
>>
>>218212222
And why does that matter to you?

No. Because Yoda saying the force comes from all living things and then they revealing everyone has those in certain amounts made the force make sense. It wasn't some random space magic anyone could learn. There were those more gifted with it than others. It added a layer of responsibility. And a layer of potential. Also it added some guardrails so writers wouldn't do stupid shit and turn everyone into Dragon Ball characters who would never stop growing stronger. There is elegance in finding your limits

But then of course Disney bought it and upended everything
>>
More and more every day I hate Gen Xers.

The worst fucking thing about this is it nullified the entire 1970s neopagan ethos from the OT. Granted the 70s were over, the 80s and the 90s were too, but that culture clash between the baby boomer hippie earth day/respectful of & in touch with nature VS. the big industrial anti-humanist war monster of their Greatest Gen parents culture just fucking evaporated completely from Lucas’ mind when he wrote the prequels and focused entirely on petty power struggles on a puny scale.

Fucking shit covered prequels fucked everything up.

I do think Midichlorians are an unnecessary addition but the idea that they somehow turn fantasy to sci fi is nonsense. Its akin to Ectoplasm in Ghostbusters. No one argues that the ghost aren't supernatural just because you can measure their power by the presence of Ectoplasm, so why do people do it for Star Wars and The Force with Midichlorians?
>>
>>218212372
The kids who grew up with the OT are mentally ill
>>
>>218211880
They’re mid.
>>
>>218212372
Because they literally say that and do exactly that right away in ep one.
>>
Why didn't anyone's parents hate the prequels
>>
>>218212532
my parents hate star wars in general
>>
>>218212244
Because life and the universe are still mysterious, despite the fact that we discovered how some things work. In fact, the discovery of mitochondria opened up even more mysteries, because the origin of how cells developed mitochondria is still being debated. Likewise, the Force is still plenty mysterious even though we are told about midi-chlorians as one of its functions.
>>
>>218211880
Isn't that the powerhouse of the cell?
>>
>>218212317
Zoomers dont know anything about that. They think they invented progressive politics and the boomers were the bad guys of history lololololol 90% of these stupid fucking kids are illiterate and only learn about the world by telling each other their dumbass ”taies” about things while playing vidya. An entire generation of tye human race utterly btfo by silicon valley. Better hope all the immigrants dont fucking leave bc theyre the only ones making it through engineering school at this point.
>>
>>218212317
I don't know how anyone could think George's boomer-lib sensibilities weren't on full display in the Prequels. Revenge of the Sith especially was a direct reaction to Bush and the War on Terror.

>>
>>218211880
Is it ever explicitly stated that Midi-chlorians cause Force strength, or are they just used as a means of measuring it?

I’m not a lore autist, more a headcanon autist, and I’ve always believed there's a difference between being a Force sensitive and being strong with the Force. I’d be happy to explain if anyone cares to read.
>>
>>218212251
This still absolutely fucking baffles me.
>>
>>218212899
Its simple really, they didn't want to pay. All those novels and comics and video games and everything in the "Extended Universe" was created by thousands of different people. If they adapted any of it they'd have to pay them a piece of whatever profits they made. Basically Disney is greedy as fuck and wants it all for themselves. So they disregarded the entire EU and have only gone with what Lucas or they have created
>>
>>218211880
>AHHHH SAVE ME DISNEY ARE THOSE FUCKING MITOCHONDRIA AHHHHH
Note that never once is it said that midichlorians have any sort of causative effect (well at least not in the direction every dumb fuck complains about) on force abilities, merely that they're casually mentioned as a potential indicator. Imagine being too stupid for a children's merchandise advertisement
>>
>>218212972
Oh man, I never realized that all the EU material wasn’t part of the deal.
>>
>>218212019
They're also dumb niggers that either didn't watch the movie, or are so stupid that they think wet clothes cause rain, and got filtered by the most retard tier, spelled out in plain english, exposition written by an autistic man for a children's movie.

Like fine the movies are goofy, and fair enough if you think they're shit, but some of the shit niggers come out with really outs them as the type to really struggle with the old breakfast paradox
>>
>>218212738
No one said that, it said his sensibilities had changed from the 70s to the 00s, which obviously they did. And yeah the prequel trilogy feels soulless bc its just petty power-wrangling between pretty equal & equally shitty self-interested factions, none of whom we even have a real reason to care about.
>>
Jedi are judaism. You have the force or you don't. You can't earn it, work hard to obtain it, or deserve it through personal sacrifice and spirituality. You're either born with it or you're not. You're the chose one, or just a goy. At best you can larp as a Jedi.

Just like you will never be fully accepted by jews if you simply convert.

No, and I don't know what the big deal was. We already knew that the Force had a biological component on account of it being inherited from your parents so it barely changes anything. If anything it just gives us context on the Jedi of the period and what their priorities were.

If you are an Orthodox Jedi and want to argue for more mysticism, maybe it shows how the Jedi that got wiped out had lost the plot somewhat?
>>
>>218213108
The post said
>that culture clash between the baby boomer hippie earth day/respectful of & in touch with nature VS. the big industrial anti-humanist war monster of their Greatest Gen parents culture just fucking evaporated from Lucas' mind
Did we watch the same movies?
>movie 1: two rival races of a planet learn to get along so they can fight the soulless war machines (literal)
>movie 2: war is instigated when two entirely manufactured armies are pitted against each other by one shadowy organization pulling the strings on both sides
>movie 3: space Hitler uses the wartime powers he's accrued to turn the democratic republic into an evil empire and murders all his opposition
Midi-chlorians themselves are like the final boss of hippy-dippy-love-nature bullshit. The whole idea is having symbiosis between micro-organisms and macro-organisms, and that all organisms should live together symbiotically, in peace. The idea that George's boomer-lib sensibilities vanished or even changed is laughable.

imo it was cool. i liked it as a way to explain the farce. stupid to pretend its magic. there must be a force carrying particle

Prequelfags are brown autists who think they're Aryan Chosen Ones, so the whole "everyone has potential" of the OT/ST is very offensive to them

No.
>>
>>218211943
It was used to show how far the jedi had fallen as an order, them taking blood samples trying to measure force was the same sort of hubris as the librarian insisting that what can't be found in the archives doesn't exist at all.

Love how K. Kennedy said there is no source material because Lucas didn't write ep 7-8-9 and millenials are like

>Also it added some guardrails so writers wouldn't do stupid shit and turn everyone into Dragon Ball characters who would never stop growing stronger.
Stupid take. There is nothing stopping a bad writer from writing that they cloned Jedi and now have an army of force users, or that they used special technology to increase a Jedi's midichlorian count. In fact, why haven't they? Logically speaking if midichlorians are a living physical thing then there is no reason why they couldn't use their technology to do something with them.
Way better to have left it at space magic with the implication being that capricious space gods or chance were the only ones who decided who could use the force, or at least clarify that midichlorians don't give you space magic they're just a benign, completely unimportant side effect of having it.

>because Lucas didn't write ep 7-8-9
He did though. He wrote a treatment and Michael Arndt was developing the script. Disney threw it out in favor of Kasdan and Abrams.
>>
>>218211880
I'll hate them the day I believe people actually fucking understand them vs what they believe in their head they meant (ie "midichlorians take the fantasy away because they tell me I can't be a Jedi :("

The dislike for the midichlorians is the same as the dislike for a lot of early prequel coverage: 35 year olds that grew up with the OT, had their knowledge of SW lore limited to said OT, and disliked the way George vastly and positively expanded the universe.

>>218211943
It makes everything even more fantastical. See also: the Whills.
>>
>>218213053
It was part of the deal, and it's still being reprinted.
>>
>>218211880
No, I'm not a disingenuous Gen X manchild. I love it when the lore gets expanded. It's a shame George will never get to make the Whills trilogy. It would no doubt completely mind break Gen Xers to the point of driving them to a suicide, all while pushing the boundaries of the film medium and advancing technology to the next level. George no doubt was the greatest auteur and artist of our lifetime.
>>
>>218213466
>It was
But it quite literally wasn't. What's the meaning of Luke stating "the Force runs strong in my family: my father has it, I have it... my sister has it" if it turns out fucking everyone can access the Force if they train a bit, like the asian chick from Rebels/Ahsoka? Since the OT, the Force was *always* genetic and it was *always* part of every living being (Obi-Wan in ANH: "It's an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together"). The PT simply explain the specificity as "microbes".
>>
>>218212091
Midichlorians are not the Force. It's amazing that every single prequel hater doesn't understand this simple fact that even children could comprehend on the first watch.

Not only did Lucas write story treatments for the sequel trilogy, he explicitly mentions this and talks about the EU as a source of inspiration to draw from in the exact same room as Kathleen Kennedy
