Most doctors will stay at that rank forever, never becoming chairs or whatever.I went from making about $50k per year as a resident and then you get a massive raise as an attending and that's pretty much the last big raise you'll ever get.

You end up better titles, and a little more responsibility but your job is mostly the same. medical training is just so specific and in such high demand it makes no sense to keep doctors doctoring.
