It's weird that this movie is considered a Scorcese classics. It sucks and is blatantly a botched by the studio project.
>>218218039Everyone trashed it
>>218218039Cause everyone just remembers or watches the clips with Bill the Butcher. Everyone forgets Cameron Diaz and Leo are in there to just drag the whole thing down. My gripe is the battle scenes do that thing where the framerate is lowered and it just looks like shit. It's a boomer ass film maker thing to do I guess they all loved that technique.
>>218218039Is it? Everyone just praises DDL and don't even bring up the rest of the movie
>>218218074I don't mind that low framerate 90s / 00s stuff. Leo doesn't have much to do in the movie and Diaz is clearly an afterthought cause the studio wanted to have a redhead love interest "like in the Titanic". The film is poorly structured. The first half is really uneven, mostly slow as fuck (after a great opening sequence) then the second half becomes the usual suspects Scorcese fast-pased, montage filled thing, but it happens basically out of nowhere, it's not like there was a buildup to it. The movie is slow and nothing of interest happens, then it suddenly rushes through the most interesting plot points at lightspeed.
I like the movie, and not just the DDL scenes. The setting and music are comfy and I like the characters. I rewatch it every year. What >>218218074 says about the low-frame-rate battles is true though, that was a bad move.
3 fucking hours in the movie theater, so long bro
>>218218039Nobody has ever considered this one of his better works
how did he get that time lapse at the end?? wouldn't it have taken ages?
