Movies and filming in general doesn't like mismatched heights in their actors/actresses. It forces more work with either using perspective or not showing their feet and having one of them stand on an apple box. It fucks with framing. Easier to just have them close enough in height

That's not a secret and it's not exclusive to Hollywood. Casting directors for the stage will outright tell you this. They pass on good auditions all the time just because the other lead was already cast and they need them to have good visuals when they embrace at the end.
