>>218229334Without him life will be much grimmer.
>>218229402Thanks anon for the obituary.Didn't know about some of those.
>>218229334Should have ended the series when he had the chance
>>218229487*rimmer
>>218229487He was the good one, Red Dwarf went to shit after he left
>>218229513Honestly I don't give a shit about the multiple reboots, they just don't exist to me. The first eight seasons are all there is. I know some purists would stop at six, but I think seven and eight do have some great episodes even if it is past the prime. At least the actors still looked young.
>>218229518In the original run sure. Naylor's stuff post-revival is much better
>>218229561It's all dad jokes. Can't watch.>dude look at how big this floppy disk is!>canned laughter for 10 straight minutes
>>218229561Season seven and eight still mog anything from the reboots.
>>218229634You're overexaggerating a tad. Back to Earth was dogshit but the new run of series were fine. Still haven't seen Promised Land though.
>>218229402I always forget about the “don’t spoil the capeshit” sticky. Makes me laugh every time I remember it
>>218229334>spends 20 years suing his former comedy partner to get writing rights again>gets them>promptly dieskwaboty
>>218229634Based boomers dabbing on millennial sois.
>>218229657>being this contrarianBitch, season 7 doesn't mog anything. It's the eternal black sheep of the series. Season 8 is just slapstick. It's OK-ish, but not Red Dwarf.
>>218229845Season seven is hated because it marked the downturn in quality of the show, because the live audience left and because Rimmer only had cameos (and Kochanski was a weak replacement). But it still has some episodes I rewatch. Stoke Me a Kipper is the best Ace Rimmer episode, it's funny and genuinely heartwarming and gives a good ending to the character. Season eight is also not loved, fair enough, but the bunk bed chats in Back in the Red feel like season 1 stuff, which is awesome. Also, Cassandra is a great episode by the standards of any season.I just don't like the reboot stuff, it's uncanny that the actors are so much older but they are trying to act exactly the same as the characters when they were younger. Lister matured during the course of Red Dwarf and it feels like he regressed back into being a 20-something lazy slob. The other characters also regressed. Honestly the whole affair feels to me like a pantomime of Red Dwarf, I see the actors trying to be the characters rather than just believing the characters like I do for the original run.

>>218229334These guys brought me a lifetime of laughter. You will be missed.
>>218230127I agree, they should've let the characters mature instead of acting the same. It's like watching latter day 3 stooges.
Was this the funny one? Because it fell off when the writing duo stopped working together.
>>218229546I don’t even hate any of the newer seasons really. Sure it’s not as good as it originally was but it never got unwatchable (for me anyways) But they should have done an hour long series finale where they finally get back to earth
>>218230127Series 7 has Beyond a Joke, some of the hardest I've ever laughed at RD
>>218229334Hi president of red dwarf here : how do you end the series ?
Damn. RIP.Good time to ask, did anyone actually read his non-RD books? I read Colony once, and remember it being fine.
>>218229402What on Earth did Billy Crystal and George Clooney get a sticky for?
>>218230582Tons of great moments in that ep. Lobster/Kryten's head blowing up, Kryten killing off the Pride and Prejudice girls, blowing up the gazibo in a tank etc. Plus, the stuff with Kryten's "brother" is actually moving.
>>218230605Probably with Rimmer kicking Death in the balls, yeah I think that'd be a good ending.
>>218230605In some roundabout way Lister gets a version of Kochanski, and ends up starting a farm on board Red Dwarf.Maybe they collide with an organic life form that starts to revive the crew, and grow vegetation on the decks. The Kicker is that Lister doesn't even know if he wants to be with Kochanski anymore, considering she's a woman he had a brief fling with 40 years ago.
>>218230681Also, perfect end for the Lister and Rimmer dynamic: Rimmer takes to being a farmer(he gets to instill order, and plants don't talk back to him). Lister hates it, and ends up a leader of men instead. Their goals have reversed.
>>218230605Lister finds Kochanski again, they make it back to Earth and the whole crew live happily ever after in FijiLiterally simple as
>>218229334My first thought was at least there won't be any new episodes, but it's the other one who keeps making them. The show should have ended with season 8.
>>218231063Doug wants to do a final story, but it might end up as a book instead.
>>218229546I feel the same, VII still has at least three very good episodes, but was let down by some retarded Kochanski retcons and losing Rimmer. VIII was a weaker season but was still Red Dwarf and reviving the crew made it feel pretty fresh. The newer Dave episodes have an uncanny quality about them. The aging stars and modern production gives it this weird feeling that was too distracting for me. I couldn't lose myself in the universe like I-VIII
>>218230934>find a worm hole back to earth >all of humanity was put into statis because of a super virus but then computer broke and ever let anyone out>lister fixes the computer and saves the day >the crew parts ways after living together for 30 years they need to get away from each other >episode ends with everyone on a beach in Fiji (turns out they actually were friends the entire time …the end)
>>218231189It's just sad, imagine the crew on Red Dwarf for decades, just going man and getting older with nothing changing. It's a tragic story. I prefer the idea that Lister and the crew had a few years on the Dwarf, on Starbug, back on the Dwarf with the crew revived and when they escaped to the mirror universe at the end, who knows? It's left open, but it's an ending at least. There is a development to the situation of the characters for the whole show until you get to the reboot stuff and they are just back stuck on the Dwarf, older and completely lacking in any maturation that we saw happen in the original run.
>>218231231You don't even need the stasis, just have the wormhole go back in time as well as space.
>>218229723well maybe you should then since the big floppy disk is from promised land
>>218231231>>episode ends with everyone on a beach in Fiji (turns out they actually were friends the entire time …the end)That would actually be a bonzer ending. Or maybe undercut it slightly by having them on the beach in Fiji, and then Starbug crashes just off the coast and a younger Lister, younger Rimmer, younger Cat, and younger Kryten wade onto the shore. The older ones tell them to fuck off back into space so they don't ruin the timeline where they get the Fiji ending by showing up too soon.
It's cold outside
as a kid, the fact that Series 8 was so different, had the whole crew back including Lovett, and had an overarching storyline was really cool and unique.I couldn't tell you how well any of it holds up. I'd have to properly sit through all of it again. I suspect CGI T-Rex is kind of cringe and not funny.
>>218229334Damn, he was part of Red Dwarf when it was really good. I think he was just a better comedy writer than Naylor is.Really recommend the Red Dwarf books he wrote/co-wrote, they're funny and they expand on the TV show really well. Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers, Better Than Life, Backwards. He had one more book ready to be published too. Avoid the Naylor only ones like Last Human which are kinda terrible.
>>218229334we've seen the notepad dale
>>218229334Damn, a true OG. Red Dwarf saved my life back in the 2010s.
>>218229334I wanted to vaxx post, but........
>>218231189This alone justifies VII's existence.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4TLto-nKfU
>>218231876>they're funny and they expand on the TV show really wellDo they explain why Holly becomes girl all of a sudden
>>218229634I am already smiling.
>>218232089Skips over that.
>>218232089The TV show already explains that. He sees his parallel universe self and because he's so attached to her he troons out.
>>218232219>He sees his parallel universe self and because he's so attached to her he troons out.Literally me
>>218231273Imo the problem with the reboot series was it went back to the S1-3 status quo without retaining enough of the solitude. If they were going to go back to the dwarf, they should have hammered home returning to the lonliness after having a glimpse of companionship. Maybe have a final happy ending to wrap it all up eventually, but it was a missed opportunity to have them go through everything from 5-8 and have it barely impact them.
>>218232089the show's explanation is that Holly has become "increasingly deranged" lol
>>218232410misinformation from 4chinz? impossible! it's because he became infatuated with his alt universe self, dickhead
>>218232880Okay, it says "increasingly erratic". I was almost right.https://reddwarf.co.uk/series/3/scrolling/

>>218231189>modern productionsucks the sould right out of a lot of thingsthe studio scenes used to be shot on 1 inch type c magnetic video tapethe 'on location' stuff and more complex scenes used 16mm filmand the big red dwarf shots were 35mm filmthats three different formats mashed together already and that is just the visual, cant forget analog audio.today its digital camera sensor to a digital file container with digital sound and all the dubs are digital too and you watch it on a digital screen and all the colors are not influenced by complicated photochemical timing or electron guns but instead a "grader"wee!

>>218237144watched it when it first came out, we'd talk about in the playground. in the beginning of secondary school four of us acted out the hallucination car chase on the school stage for an assembly, we made up a script and included something like that, had some laughs from the audience.when it stopped after the 6th series, I would have dreams occasionally that continued it. was rewatcjing some of 12 and 11 in the last couple of days, after not having watched any of it in a year or so, odd timing.
