>Lucas doesn't want to take responsibility for or be associated with the Holiday Special
>the worst thing about the Holiday Special, having it centered around Wookies who have extended conversations in gibberish without subtitles, was Lucas' "vision" and he would not budge on doing it

I think he just realized how fucking high Carrie Fisher was in the movie and was embarrassed

Can't wait for the high definition theatrical re-release for the 50 year anniversary in 2028.

What a truly fucked up event.
It doesn't get much weirder in the 70's than the Star Wars Holiday Special.
Pretty much a given that everyone involved was on some kind of drug during production.
What a party it was back then.

I watched it online one time and actually felt like I was on drugs. They did a good job of making the viewer feel as high as they were when they produced the show.

I watched it with The Riff Tracks guys and it was a lot more tolerable.
No wonder George was so pissed off at it, but he had to have liked something of it because a lot of the designs of the wookie's treehouse homes and other things became canon. I even remember seeing a screenshot of it in the OG Battlefront game. That, and we got that cool cartoon in the middle with the original cast voicing themselves and Boba Fett making his first appearance. That and the song Bea Arthur sings is all right, if not a little out of place. I can even say I liked the designs of the circus performer outfits, although the sketches for them are really sumptous pieces of art if you ever get to see them.
A LOT of it is iredeemable bantha shit like Itchy jerking off to Jefferson Starship or the cooking show or Harrison Ford being so embarassed and checked the fuck out at the end or the shit footage of the bad make up on Mark Hamill looking fucking weird like, right after his motorbike accident. And its WILD to think that fucking Art Carney, who had won an Oscar the previous year, is what kids are supposed to relate to and is more or less the star of it.

Ralph McQuarrie did some concept art of Kashyyyk for the Holiday Special. I think it's more accurate to say that it was McQuarrie's concepts that became canon, and not the Holiday Special's implementation of them. The show being shit did not mean they had to throw away useful art by the man who designed much of the iconic imagery in the films
