What do you consider to be the *best* Godzilla film? Which movie do you think features his best design? For me my favorite Godzilla movie is Biollante but I love that new design for Minus One.
I don't understand why this movie is as beloved as it is on this website. destroyah and space are just easily better to anyone and 1985 if you aren't a dumb monkey is way better than biollante. when it comes to heisei shit.

>>218416497Well honestly Biollante just happened to be one of the first Godzilla movies I watched. So I'm not gonna deny that nostalgia is a huge factor in my choice. I agree that that Destoroyah and Space are both sick. Space is defintely one of the best designs ever.
>>218416318The one with the least CGI slop.
>>218416573Holy kino...
>>218416573I have to agree, Final Wars is my go-to.
>>218416595Half the franchise has equally 0% CGI
>>218416318Final Wars
>>218416318Do the godzilla movies reference past movies usually? Or are they standalone? I wanted to watch Godzilla vs biolante
2014the human shit sucks in every single one anyway
>>218418960Half of that movie is just a black screen and there's barely any monster fighting on screeen if you also don't like the humans, what's there to like?
>>218418926the 50s-70s movies share a continuity. then the 80s-90s movies have their own continuity (the original 1954 movie being still canon). However pretty much any Godzilla movie can be watched on its own
Nobody has ever posted cool gifs of godzilla movies so they can only be boring shits
>>218416318>What do you consider to be the *best* Godzilla film?Godzilla Vs. Gigan. Pacing is great, characters are fun, space cockroaches, awesome tag team fight with Godzilla and Anguirus against King Ghidorah and Gigan.>best designGodzilla 2000. Peak gigamogger.
>>218416318Final wars is the most entertaining but in terms of real godzilla movies for me it's Godzilla vs. Destoroyah and it's not close. And yes I am including the original and -1 and Shin in my assessment when I say that.
>>218416318Idk why biollante is so beloved, it's a weird 80s style movie in the worst way possible I find. It still has a lot of merit, but the entire film largely is about meandering around and a bunch of hardly related things barely strung along before lightly concluding imo. Almost all other heisei films have stronger, more coherent plots. People praise the effects in biollante, which are fine, but I don't find them particularly more mind blowing or anything. I agree with what another anon said, vs Destroyah is probably better imo>>218416497I will say that spacegodzilla is probably the worst heisei film by virtue of being pointless. You could remove it and nothing would happen to the entire series at all
>>218418926Not all the time, and when they do they usually do it in a "lightweight" way where it's either an unimportant comment or they do a flashback explaining everything you need to know. That being said biollante is probably best enjoyed by watching the previous movie. Iirc it does reference 1984 a bit more than your average sequel Godzilla movie
>>218416586Spacegodzilla is the laziest redesign in the history of redesigns. Not to mention that name is equally stupid.
>>218418926Most godzilla movies are standalone, including Biollante. Even when they do have connections to previous films, it is a minor reference that won't take away from the experience. If you suspect there's a scene/dialogue you didn't get, you can always look it up later. But yeah, these are simple creature feature movies designed for fun. The story itself is an afterthought,
>>218416318All Godzilla films are *best* Godzilla films. Only thing that could be better is your attitude. Watch them, have fun, go to bed.Leave the bitching and moaning to StarWars fans.
>>218416318Minus One is the most watchable without any glaring issues and hard not to see it as the best.Shin has some very striking imagery and moments, but its about half an hour longer than it needed to be.The original is quite dated and doesn't really land anymore, its decent enough for a film that old so don't go into it expecting something unwatchable or boring but it really shows its age, you could tell they didn't quite have the whole tokusatsu style down yet, worth a watch at least once but not one I come back to often.Showa era beyond the original movie is very campy and doesn't take itself seriously, they're goofy fun but its hard to recommended to anyone over the age of like 10.Heisei started off strong, both 1985 and Biollante are good, but once you hit vs. King Ghidorah its Showa era all over again.Millenium series is mostly trash, but GMK is great, one of the best, Final Wars is the sloppiest of slop, but its enjoyable if literally all you want out of a Godzilla movie is monsters fighting. Final Wars almost feels more like Kamen Rider than Godzilla.
>>218416318I am not familiar with the whole franchise, I've only seen the new stuff. I liked Shin for the focus on all the human organizing and bureaucracy coming together, because some of the other Kaiju stuff (esp the new Legendary) seems like one big humiliation ritual for humanity - like Kaiju are gods and you cannot do anything but submit and hope you are spared. Are there any other media in the franchise that are similar to Shin in that sense?
Why aren't there more godzilla fans irl? I've only seen them in the internet. Are we genuinely retards who were supposed to grow out of godzilla by our teens and move onto something else? I think other mainstream franchises are equally as retarded (superheroes, anime, vidya), yet you can easily find their fans in public, as opposed to godzillafags. i'm from eastern europe by the way, is it any different in US?
>>218420968Shin is closest to the 1954 original Gojira
>>218416497Godzilla vs Biloante is unironic shit. The only reason I even know Biolante was a godzilla enemy was because I beat his ass in that weird SNES game.
It's obviously Final Wars and you're crazy if you disagree
>>218416318based biollante enjoyer making the plebs seethe
ive only ever seen shin and the brian cranston one. shin godzilla was fucking kino though
>>218421503Then Minus One is up your alley
>>218421095Honestly I don't see that many fans in America either. At least not when compared to comics/vidya/anime. Godzilla seems to still be kinda niche and more localized to Japan more so than other nerd shit. Although that might be changing some since big movies like Minus One and it's upcoming sequel have seen big success here.
>>218416318You posted it.>>218416497>>218419811>>218421161>>218421226PROS> Dr Shiragami is among the best human characters of the series.> Miki Saegusa is also & she is introduced here, although she isn't given as much depth as Shiragami.> Kuroki & sss9 are iconic & cool.> Really damn good effects. Biollante's final form is stunning in it's dripping slippery looking glory.> Great G suit especially in the face (suit is a prototype for the more sinister & muscular gvskg suit which IMO is the best suit of the series)> Goes back to the original Gojira & Hedorah & gives us a actual message with it's warnings against genetic engineering + bio weapons.> Biollante has one of the most in depth origins for any Godzilla foe.> Like 1985, really solid military stuff & quality city sets. And continues the largely dead serious tone.> Solid score.SUBJECTIVE PRO OR CON> IMO a solid & logical geopolitical spy subplot but I have seen some people mock it inexplicably.> The spiritual aspect of the film IMO is subtle enough to not conflict with the otherwise grounded rest of the film.> Miki attacking Godzilla with her psychic abilities I could see how it would seem outlandish to some people but I am fine with it.CONS> Biollante's stiffness & lack of arms limits the battles only slightly.> Final battle could have been just a bit longer.MISSED OPPORTUNITIES> I would have left in the deleted stop motion clips, just slowed down Godzilla's movements so he didn't seem too agile compared to the suit.
>>218418926Biollante can be watched alone but my recommendation would be to do the following...> 1 - Watch American cut of 1954> 2 - Watch American cut of 1985 (never released on DVD, here is a basically perfect HQ fan reconstruction)https://archive.org/details/Godzilla1985RedMenace> 3 - Watch vs BiollanteThey make for a fantastic trilogy.
>>218416318The first one or vs. King Kong
>>218422705>>218422705>>218422705
I'm sick and tired of people out in the world pretending they've never seen a fucking Godzilla movie, or heard about it, or ever thought/cared. It's fucking GODZILLA. When some one asks 'what's your favorite Godzilla monster' everyone should be able to at least say the main character, if not Mothra. jfc.
>>218423806I wonder what percentage of people in America know anything about Godzilla though. With the exception of the bad American films which are probably just something they saw once and then never though about again.
godzilla vs mechagodzilla 2
>>218416318No contest, this is the greatest Godzilla movie ever made.

>>218416497I agree with Destroyah but Space was just shit.
>>218416318GMK is my favorite. Charming, cool rubber suits, big bad guy G, plenty of fights and just silly enough. The only downside is that Ghidorah is a weak little shit and massively out of character.
>>218426509I'm seeing a lot of spacegodzilla shilling. Could be Legendary's shitty attempt to make that piece of shit spacegodzilla cool.
>>218426720Spacegodzilla's design is cool. It's the movie that sucks.
>>218426720They always do this before they shill the movie.
>>218426762>>218426765Godzilla is born from nuclear radiation. To suggest that somewhere in space, the exact replica of Godzilla was born with giant crystals is an insult to the fans and all the innovative monsters created for this franchise.Look! Its Godzilla, but for the lack of ingenuity he's an alien that looks exactly like Godzilla called SpaceGodzilla.More you think about this stupid character, the more you hate it and no amount of Legendary PR shilling will make that sloppy turd of a character desirable.
