This ran for 12 seasons. 12 years.
It was one of the highest rating shows during that whole period.
But if you ask anyone, they "never" liked it or watched it.
Something doesn't add up.
>>
It's all boomers watching it, man. They LOVE this show.
>>
>>218419125
the late Gen X Redditors that watched it were obese to the point of all of them dying from heart disease by now
>>
>>218419125
It's a guilty pleasure kino
>>
YES, SHELDON YES!
>>
I watched this show religiously, on repeat when i was 13. Like i was fuckin obsessed with it.
In hindsight the first 5 seasons are comfy, though steadily decline through 4 and 5 and then i stopped watching at 6 i think
>>
>>218419125
i watch it when i want to fall asleep. great white noise, braindead filler without being totally unsalvageable shit

did you know the whole "bazinga" thing was only in like 5 episodes. came out of nowhere mid-series and disappeared just as quickly, probably after the writers got bullied for it. but it's still all anyone thinks about the show

I’ve never seen literally one episode, so take that for what it is. Garbage like this is for the nigger cattle of the world.
>>
my bro used to increase the volume when the theme song played

I watched the early seasons. Those were the last days where I still watched actual television, you know when you'd just get home and turn on the tv and leave it on something that you don't hate.
I liked the show just fine, it was funny but it was far from being my favorite thing. And I was enough of a comic book nerd to be annoyed at the references they made, which were always factually correct but it never made sense that these supposed mega comic nerds would be discussing such surface level trivia, like whether or not Wolverine has bone claws, or what Green Lantern's weakness is. As if any of them wouldn't know these things. I imagine the references to science and other stuff that they made might have had the same problem but I wouldn't know.

This, it was my dads favorite show

>Those were the last days where I still watched actual television, you know when you'd just get home and turn on the tv and leave it on something that you don't hate
This is how I watched it too. These days my antenna doesn't even pick up CBS anymore. You can watch anything online now but I resent not having the option
>>
>>218419125
4chan and the wider internet was hating on this show from the start, but normalfags loved it. I honestly didn't get the hate for it but it was never better than mediocre and I certainly don't feel any urge to ever watch it again.

I've always liked The Big Bang Theory
The first 5 seasons were good, I dont care if the later seasons were bad because i didnt watch them
>>
i saw exactly one episode, many years ago, it aired on tnt or tbs during a baseball rain delay. seemed ok. there was an indian in it
>>
>>218419480
It wanted to be for nerds and offer accessibility to normalfags, it did neither well so it suffered, but it's surface level watching so I don't really care.
>>
The dumbest dude I know likes this show. Also my dad started watching and enjoying it after he had a huge stroke

My mom loves it.

I'm in a 3rd world country you probably haven't heard of, and even here it's all boomers watching it. Why is this?
>>
>>218419125
It was a good narrative. Whereas 99.9% of sitcoms previously basically stayed the same (The Simpsons, King of Queens etc.) all these characters discovered new things and grew up.

So it made you want to see every episode to get that Comedy+Soap Opera type of thing. Then it was fun to see whatever nerd culture thing they spoofed. You would scream HEY MOM OR FRIEND LOOK!

Also this time in nerd culture felt so good, so warm and cozy. If you look at it with todays eyes I think instead of being angry at it getting coopted for a stupid show like I did as a kid, now as an adult I think its nice to see these things get shown in a more heartwarming setting. Today's media and youtube/tiktok is so hyperironic and mean with lots of anger and cursing, nothing can ever be discussed without HOLY SHIT ITS GAAAAMERGAAATE WOMEN ARE WHORES FALL OF WESTERN FUCKING CIVILIZATION. This is on a video about Beyblades videogame. lol

Its good that this show existed when you could portray nerd stuff in a fun way that had no hatred to it.
>>
>>218423325
The only problem is that nerd stuff is cringe and pathetic IRL so it could only ever be portrayed as fun in a fictional setting. Those kinds of nerds don't have a sense of humor or social skills AT ALL and don't interact with attractive girls. In real nerd groups there is like 5-10 guys and only one not attractive girl that is usually taken and all the other nerds try to simp for.

When you keep pushing something someone doesn’t want they get increasingly irritated. Triply so when you have people going “oh em gee ur jus like [character]”

Also broadcast died in 2007 so “highest rated” means highest point on the sinking ship.

Anon. Sitcoms are designed for low iq watching. Laugh track tricks your monkey brain into laughing at things that aren’t actually funny. And yes, it is a laugh track. It is an audio track consisting solely of coached laughter that is recorded separately from the dialogue.
>>
>>218423697
good job cracking the case midwit
>>
Because real life wasn't 4chan and Reddit back then, it's a mediocre show not better not worse than your average sitcom. That said, people underestimate the cultural influence this show had during the late 00's early 10's.
>>218419480 I have the same problem with Frasier

I liked it

>>218419125
I never watched a single episode of this

I've watched a couple of early seasons because I was learning English and it was a popular thing at the time
>>
>>218419202
Huh, wild, I would have thought it a constant gag.
>>
>>218419202
>white noise
more like jew noise, amirite?
>>
>>218419136
It used to be my old gay bosses favourite show.
>>
>>218419125
It was tolerable for the first couple of seasons. Then being a geek became fashionable. People start spouting
>I read a book, I'm such a geek
Then came the jokes that weren't even jokes, which didn't matter as 80% of the viewers by that point were thick as shit.
>Sheldon states Ubuntu is his favourite operating system
>Roaring laughter fron the audience
They're effectively laugh at their own ignorance. The average person has no idea what a Linux distro is, yet they laugh like brainless morons when the science man says things they don't understand.
Its background TV like b99, superstore, Seinfeld or friends, people aren't actually watching it.
>>
>>218419125

>We are nerds
>Most "nerd" discussions are surface level normie shit

Community was way better (until they fucked up and messed with the original recipe)
>>
>>218419125
It makes sense, every person I know that like it doesn't use the internet that much.
>>
>>218419125
>It was one of the highest rating shows during that whole period.
You're really overestimating what that means. WIki says it hit around 20 million viewers at its peak in 2015. The population of the U.S. was around 320 million at the time, so you're looking at around 6% of the population watching. And that's everyone watching, not just the big fans. People who have it on in the background, people turning it on because it was popular, whatever.
>>
>>218423809
>people underestimate the cultural influence this show had during the late 00's early 10's.

Every joke/reference was years to decades out of date by the time it aired on the show. If anything people overstate the show’s influence.

I'm not saying to grab 4K bluray rips or anything, but goddamn that must be some potato quality anon.

Nobody remembers or cares that this show was basically the 9/11 of the corporate and normalfag takeover of nerd interests? Watching it is being complicit in every IP that has been raped and destroyed in the last 15 years.
>>
>>218427232
Lmao, get a load of this dork.
>>
Young Sheldon is better.
>>
>>218427154
Or fixed camera sitcoms lend themselves well to compression.

My copy of The Pitt S1 is larger than that.

The first few seasons were unironically really good
>>

I think it's just internet people mainly. Tons of people loved it, but due to a bunch of e-celebs shitting on it many of those same people now think it's bad and that they never liked it in the first place (or at least are embarrassed about it and hide it).

It also added to the "being a nerd/autistic is funny and cool", so countless nerds and autistic people used it as a cope for their complete lack of any social skills, they identified with them, and wanted to get some laughs out of it and think of how they're not "the worst". Then when they realized this levity at it all instead of panic at how their life was turning out was all a big mistake and have backlash at the show now.

But again, herd mentality online and all the comments you read has almost nothing to do with real life. I'm sure it gets syndicated at almost the exact same level as any other show that's had similar figures. Probably hardly a blip, and at worst maybe 10%. People have to stop assuming that looking at comments and upvoted comments you see online is reflective of people in general.
>>
the slop that middle america watches is not slop that gets much engagement online
NCIS is perhaps the greatest example, has always had enormous ratings despite being almost invisible online
