Will media consolidation and monopolies kill the movie industry like people say, or is it just an over reaction?
>>
>>218420869
Other way around, the consolidation is a reaction to decay and inevitable death.

If there are too many streaming services then that’s consumer unfriendly because that becomes cable with extra steps. But when streaming services merge then that’s consumer unfriendly because it creates an entertainment monopoly.

>Will media consolidation and monopolies kill the movie industry
no
>>
>>218420869
one nice thing about modern FOX carving a niche without their movie studio is their consolidated streaming app has all their sports rights on it with none of the bizarre fuckery Disney keeps pulling with ESPN
>>
>>218420869
all content i can pirate. let one company consolidate all of it, i don't give a shit.
>>

>sports
lol ok you fucking faggot
>>
They will all consolidate into one company that is ten trillion dollars in debt.

culture as you know it has been ruined by greed and hubris (not to mention a lack of talent and intelligence). it's time for a change.

>Except for MSNBC which got spun off to no willing buyers
Lmao

i give them 5 years before they go bankrupt, and that's extremely generous
>>
>>218424069
Apparently Maddow's salary is still pretty high, although iirc she did have to take a pay cut a couple of years ago.

I agree that 5 years is very optimistic, but there's always some company dumb enough to buy has-been networks (or in this case, never-were).

Media consolidation will absolutely harm the industry. These days getting to take part in making a film is ‘who you know’ not ‘what you know’. Now imagine an industry where the ‘who you know’ is six people not six hundred.
For all its yapping about diversity, Hollywood sure seems to only like specific kinds of it… diversity of output not being one of them.

>>218420869
we're long overdue for the rise of another indie outlet like Miramax. A24 could've been in but they already fumbled and made all their shit lame and gay.
>>
>>218424043
So they left both Microsoft anf NBC and are called My Source Now? Wow.

It's over. Rest in piss

This. When companies fear for their viability in the future they start merging to pool resources. Just look at who the biggest conglomerates are: Comcast, Paramount, and Disney. Dinosaurs of a previous era. They are wealthy and control a lot of IP and infrastructure, but their grip on culture is fading.
>>
>>218425920
>comcast
>dinosaur of a previous era

bruh its an isp
>>
>>218425947
Comcast is a cable company. It's an ISP, phone company, and TV provider all wrapped up in one. Comcast rose up on the back of the cable industry and it has taken the decline of cable with very little grace.
>>
>>218426009
like how netflix took the "decline" of their dvd mailing service with "very little grace?"
>>
>>218424183
She took a pay cut because she only comes on 4 times a month now.
>>
>>218420869
It's already dead.
All of the movie companies are in debt up to their eyeballs. Consolidation seems like a bizarre way to go out considering the astronomical prices they're buying them for.
Maybe they know something about the current financial system that we aren't aware of.
