With these worldevents unfolding in real-time, what are your favorite end-of-the-world kinos? I'm marathoning Threads tonight, saw Greenland yesterday (surprisingly good)

This is probably the closest end of the world will feel in big cities.
>>218421482
And this is for small towns.
Their plots are also very similar at least at first. Gen Z has been preparing for this our whole lives. We know that if things ever get decent, it means the nukes will drop tomorrow.
>>
>le nuclear war will end civilization!
is only scary for midwits who have no sense of scale and actual danger of nuclear blasts.
even a full blown exchange with several thousand warheads dropped wouldnt even come close to killing all humans on earth
>inb4 nuclear winter
wont happen, those blasts and fires wont put nearly enough soot in the atmosphere. worst case scenario is some weather pattern shifts in the northern hemisphere (where 90% of the nukes will drop).

even if a nuclear war kills 99% of all people (which is an absurdly high number) that would still leave 90 million alive, which is more people than the roman empire had at its peak.
>>
>>218421799
That's right. Don't panic. Trust that the elites will sort everything out. Maintain order.
>>
>>218421482
Children of Men for purely artistic reasons, but it's a tossup between Reign of Fire and Animatrix for being plain cool.
>>
>>218421854
just because it’s less than complete extinction doesn’t mean it won’t still be the end of the world. there are very far reaching implications you probably haven’t considered, and there is no way to really predict the various effects of thousands of nuclear bombs being dropped around the world
>>
>>218421915
it would definitely change the trajectory of human civilzation forever and would be a huge tragedy in terms of loss of life and wealth, but it would not be the end of the world.

civilization would unironically bounce back from this. be it a few decades or a few centuries, people will move on.
and some kind of "tech reset" wont happen either, people understand that things are possible, and they will want to have indoor plumbing and electric lights again. knowledge that the natural world can be manipulated to our benefit will never be lost
>>
>>218421482

most places on earth won't get hit.
How is a nuclear war between the US and China gonna affect the food security of argentina?
apart from economic disruptions, life in most places will go on.
massive food shortages in areas hit
local, temporary food shortages in unaffected areas.
subsistence farmers in botswana arent gonna care about "le armageddon" - literally nothing will happen to them

>>218422830
I'm serious. you nuclear war scaremongers are retards.
it would be a terrible tragedy yes, but it wouldn't end human civilization or human life on earth or all life on earth. things would recover after some dark decades.
people are sturdy and resourceful. the survivors wouldn't just roll over and give up

A nuclear war's damage to the ozone layer would suck for everyone, no matter your latitude. Cancers and premature aging which you can't really avoid because you need to work outside to help keep what's left of society running. Or if you no longer live in a society then you need to go outside to scavenge
>>
>>218421621

it would suck for the generation affected by nuclear war, and reduce their average lifespans, but again, not a civilization ender.

Greenland is a more boring version of 2012.
>>
>>218423507
The ending is brilliant but it doesn't really excuse the 100 minutes of mediocrity that preceded it.
>>
>>218424299
>basically everyone in that movie is either played by a jewish actor, or is a jewish character
This is really not true. Leelee Sobieski and Jon Favreau are part Jewish, the rest of the main cast is not. Maybe you have some medical condition where you imagine seeing Jews everywhere, and falsely categorize non-Jews as such
>>
>>218424351
Much agreed, but it was already named in this thread
>>218424395
Greenland and 2012 overlap quite a lot, but whereas 2012 has a lot of special effects and constant explosions, Greenland felt a lot more grounded and realistic, making it less boring
>>218424452
Was not only talking about the main cast you retard. Eldard and Schiff also jewish, of the main cast. Rest of the main cast are playing jews (biederman family, lerner family). Bunch of side characters are jews. Nearly all children in the movie are jews. Director and writers are jews. Nice try tho

There is a Reign of Fire movie tie-in game for PS2/Xbox/GameCube.
It's aged poorly but still has some novelty in how it lets you play as both human military stuff and as the dragons
>>
>>218421482
Threads is the darkest and the most realistic, even if you take away the nuclear winter hypothesis, it could be any disaster that overwhelms infrastructure. Meteor, warfare of any kind, supervolcano, plague.

After that, it becomes a question of how ended the world is. 28 Days looks worse every year with that native 720p they used, it used to be good. Red Dawn is a generation defining disaster movie for gen X, confirmed kino. Kairo takes a while to get going but I like it a lot. La Jetee is a good post-apocalypse, and Delicatessen while we're in France. The Second Renaissance is a generation-defining flick for millennials, the whole animatrix is a must-see. Spielberg's WOTW is a highly enjoyable apocalypse.

it is absolutely a civilization ender what the fuck
it would be so bad, even when humanity was consigned the serfdom they didnt have to deal with acid rain, totally fucked weather and a cancer rate nearing 100pc
not to mention the general malaise of being the people who survived the end of the world
a lot of people would just give up, and madness and violence would rule the world. ruthless motherfuckers would take what they could.
it wouldnt be mad max but it would be very bad. and with most of the easily accessible resources mined, refined and lost, recovery would be slow if it happened at all.
>>
>>218425246
>acid rain, totally fucked weather and a cancer rate nearing 100pc
reminder that weather patterns dont cross hemispheres because of the coriolis effect.
a nuclear war would be mainly fought in the northern hemisphere. which again, leaves countries like botswana, argentina, and likely even australia, largely untouched.

ozone layers can and will recover, and necessary outdoors work can be done in shifts. it would suck, people would die, but not nearly everyone.
most places in the world wouldnt even feel that 800 million people just got vaporized in nuclear fire.
>a lot of people would just give up
lmao, you think some mountain tribe in kenya are gonna commit mass suicide because Chicago got nuked? kek
>madness and violence would rule the world. ruthless motherfuckers would take what they could
how is nuclear war gonna shake the political institutions of Namibia or Paraguay?
it would have massive economic ramifications, but these countries would be FINE.

and even if there was political turmoil, these things can be overcome. even 50 years of authoritarianism won't be the end of human civilization.

>easily accessible resources mined, refined and lost, recovery would be slow if it happened at all.
halving the world population will do wonders for available resources. even stripmining the ruins of the west after the radiation has died down will fuel the sub saharan economies for a long time.
a global nuclear war will change everything, but it wont be the end.
>>
>>218421854
So... still the end of the world for you and me?
>>
>>218425324
oh good we can rely on the tribes of kenya, botswana and namibia to rebuild civilization.
those places are well known for their industry and ability to move past being dirt poor subliterates.
they would be building sailing ships if it weren't for modern civilization

get a clue. regressing to tribal standards of living is the end of civilization. that is where civilization BEGINS.
>>
>>218425680
I think he named the more tribal places because they would (theoretically) have less of a shakeup in their way of life and are less likely to think of it as the end of the world.
At those latitudes you also have places in Argentina, South Africa, Australia etc which are more developed
>>
>>218425324
the northern hemisphere is where most of the land is. you are proposing restarting civilization in a place where like 90pc of the globe is unusable ocean.
its not accident that europe and the USA are major global breadbaskets. having arable land in a nice contiguous strip is how you grow lots of crops.
>>
End of Evangelion
>>
>>218425797
Also, he downplays the ozone damage thing and doesn't account for how the UV would be so bad that it doesn't just hurt people, it makes it much harder for crops to grow. Even a place that has plenty of what was arable land, and does its best to manage it, might end up starving to death.

is not even about the power of the nukes retard, only 1000 nukes need to hit their targets and the entire society will shit the bed, 9 digits will die in the first few hours, billions will die after a few months duo to wars, famines and plagues, the infrastructure crumble so how do you feed billions? you can't, how do you transport the materials used for farming like fertilizers, pesticides, and animal feed when the Middle East is glass and all the big ports are destroyed? you can't, even if you could, have fun driving a truck on a highway blocked by 100000 cars
>>
>>218426994
Just move the cars?
>>
>>218426739
no, even a tribal society that had a population like the romans would leave behind an enormous change in the soil layer. there would be enormous quantities of bone and char as well as lithic remains (stone tools).
we dont find anything like this anywhere. we do find cities but no evidence of a huge paleolithic society that existed in Edenic abundance. it really was just a constant struggle with small tribes being wiped out and assimilated into big tribes, falling apart from disease and famine, and fragmenting back into small tribes.
it wasnt until agriculture that human pop began to reliably increase beyond a couple million people worldwide.

It's not "highly likely." It's more of a useful thought experiment (the Silurian hypothesis) than something scientists or historians take seriously. There's plenty of reason to think humans are the first technological civilization here.
Maybe aliens visited in the past and then left, but that would be different from something which naturally emerged on earth the same way we did
