she makes a shitty slut. should have stayed classy.

I believe woman directed it.
When women try to be sexy without male guidance they end up being gross.
Don't know why.

>>218421710
This is tame compared to what female singers and rappers do on stage now

Margaret Qualley is such a boring movie star. Literally every film role of hers that I've seen is just her showing up, fluttering her eyes, biting her lips, and "being hot." Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Blue Moon, How To Make a Killing, Honey Don't, she has no range whatsoever (and when she tries to do something else like Driveaway Dolls, it's horrendously cringe).

The Substance at least tries to do something more interesting with it but ultimately it's just a mean spirited moralizing story about how you shouldn't want to be young and pretty, she's still there to just be hot.

I don't like this movie at all but the point was obviously to lean into the aesthetics of misogyny as hard as possible until it became grotesque.

never comment on movies again outside of reciting a plot synopsis, you're extremely bad at it

That's literally what it's about, anon. That you should age gracefully and not try to bog yourself with plastic surgery and other superficial cosmetic shit. It's extremely mean to Demi Moore's character, who has her body juxtaposed with somebody younger and "hotter," who then proceeds to beat her to death later on in the film.

To be clear, I get that it's a horror movie and horror movies are always this mean, I just think Caroline Fagótt made a vapid, bloated movie.

But it's not "aesthetics of misogyny" - if a man directed them it would be hot.
How sexuality is portrayed here has this easily discernible western female touch - forced, "edgy" and obnoxious. It's like ballet vs. twerking.

I agree with you. It feels like it's trying to satirize things that men are "attracted" to by making it hypersexual and then perverting it with gore, but it's through the lens of outdated shit like a jazzercise aerobics show. She's about thirty years too late for this kind of commentary.
