There's a downy support clinic near the store I work at and quite a few of them are quite pleasant and decently competent at day to day stuff like dressing, hygiene, shopping, meal prep, etc. There's a reason they can do some types of jobs acceptably. Generally downs peopke aren't at that far end of profound retardation where they drool in a wheelchair or screetch while flailing their arms, they're just slow and stupid but smart enough to know it. We had an occupational thing with the clinic a few years back where one of them helped out a few hours a week and they were better than most of the high school kids at putting soda on a shelf and sweeping, and didn't spend half their shift on their phone either. He liked trains and my grandad worked for the santa fe so we got along quite well. Obviously he was at the higher end of things but it was still a surprisingly competent performance.
