The more I watch Star Trek, the more I dislike how subspace communication is even a thing.Instant communication just removes an interesting hurdle for spacefaring civilisations, but on top of that, how it works and what it's limitations are is really ill-defined. What is its range? What happens at the edges of that range? Sometimes they're communicating with people in other systems with ease, other times the thought of doing that when it could be useful just never comes up
