How come they don't make iconic movie vehicles anymore?
>>
team of pajeets with cgi can make 1/10th of the style of that while laundering the rest of the money so your retarded children can have a drug habit before 14 and transition to a tranny at 16 is way more trendy.
>>
Modern cars fucking suck and nobody likes them.

The high hide scene in the book is so good.

>eddie tries to pull the trailer back up using his jeep
>the motion sensors automatically hit the brakes for him when the t rex shows up
>auto start-stop turns off the engine, leaving them immobilized
>he tries one last time to get it on before getting eaten, but the touchscreen display panel is waterlogged and not responding
>everyone fucking dies

One of the biggest sins of that movie is not showing those vehicles in action more.
>>
>>218593314
>>218592792
>borrow someone's new vehicle, like brand fucking new
>takes 3 solid minutes for the various tablets to start up and let me change temperature / radio settings
>cruise control keeps shutting itself off claiming there's a sensor issue for the highway assist feature which doesn't even work where we live
>gas tank is one of those press-click to open ones and it's stuck or something, gas station attendant and myself fiddle with it for 10 mins before i finally just use a screwdriver to wedge it open

i pray my life never depends on a modern vehicle working in an expedient fashion. or a smart tv.

watching this in theaters as a kid was the first time I consciously asked "wait that's it?" after the movie spent so much time showing these being built and the marketing advertised so many toys and they were on screen/in-use for like 1 minute
>>
>>218593372
Those front wheel designs are awful. The mud and rocks would sling to the cockpit view all the time
>>
>>218593544
It's incredibly stupid because Jurassic Park actually spent time an immersive time in the cars. It's almost a part of JP's DNA.
How are you gonna introduce a whole bunch of new cars with all these gadgets and not show them being driven around and doing shit to interact with the dinosaurs?
The InGen vehicles get their time to shine, but Malcolm's group do almost nothing with theirs like they're supposed to and it irritates the shit out of me.
They're made for observation and gathering, so actually imagine if they got to ride along a herd of Trikes or something.
>>
>>218593544
it's such a weird movie. it feels like 2 different movies awkwardly shoved together. the tone was all over the place and you didn't know who you were supposed to be rooting for.
>>
>>218593630
spent an immersive amount of time*
>>
>>218593544
I had the jeep toy with the extendable seat where they use to catch one of the dinosaurs with the pole thing. It's in the movie for like that ONE clip kek
>>
>>218593648
>it's such a weird movie
They probably never had a sequel planned until it did so well and then forced rushed a story out. The fact the movie is "Oh there's another Island" is retarded
>>
>>218594763
You're correct. Jurassic Park the book / movie were supposed to be self-contained stories. After the succes of the film, Spielberg pressured Crichton into writing a sequel and ended up using pretty much none of it lol.
>>
>>218594942
funny thing is that malcolm died in the 1st novel but crichton still brought him back for the lost world
>>
>>218594717
Same. Loved the bike though(it exploded in half when you pressed a button)
>>
>>218595123
That was probably one of Spielberg's stipulations as him and the studios figured he'd be a good lead. So they had to come up with really contrived reasons for him to go thr island in both the book and the film, because it makes no sense for the character to do that.
>>
>>218593648
the book was weird like that too, Spielberg asked Crichton to write a sequel so he did but unlike the first he wrote it fully intending it to become a movie and it reads like it
ironically the movie used almost nothing from the book, besides Malcom being the main character and a hired crew going to check out the dinosaurs
>>218594763
it was the first book I ever read that straight up felt like it was published just as an excuse to get made into a movie, which it was
Crichton had another one in the early 00s called Prey that was the exact same way, all the beats and character moments in it felt like visual movie moments and not book moments, like it had been a screenplay that was rewritten as a novel

Cameron designed these vehicles to be more toyetic than practical. And I will admit, I think most of them look pretty cool. But he made the fatal mistake of making all the cool toys "the bad guys" in a modern toy market where kids don't even play with toys any more
>>
>>218593506
Get this one: modern cars all have electric shifters. The car fucks up and is having trouble starting or powering up? Can't fucking shift the piece of shit into neutral so you can push the goddamn thing off the road. Just stays in park so you look like an idiot waiting for a tow truck because your stupid fancy car died in traffic.
>>
>>218596460
Is the book worth reading?
>>
>>218597794
Yeah, it's still pretty good. Not as strong or thematic as the first one for all the reasons mentioned, but it scratches the itch if you want more of the same.
>>
>>218597794
it's worth checking out, it feels somewhat fresh because the plot was never actually used but the later movies have shamelessly pilfered elements from it
>>
Wish Nick had died instead of Eddie
>>
>>218592036
Because turns out wasting two million for making a single-use custom vehicle is a terrible investment. Especially when CGI exists
I know, shocking.
>>
>>218600696
Weirdly butthurt about this.
>>
>>218600696
It's not a waste. You're creating art that will last generations. This stuff will be watched a century from now and they will enjoy these "old movies" as windows into the distant past. The stuff 95% cgi is already pathetic and ignored even now

he tried selling it for six milly

but I know, he didn't even take the time to properly photograph and archive the packaging for posterity. Why even collect if you'll just get bored of it and sell it one day?

Plus vehicles are an inherently white interest and they have been systematically purged from entertainment roles
>>
>>218592036
vehicle safety laws were tightened in the last 20 years. They still make iconic vehicles on their computers tho, it's cheaper and causes fewer legal shenanigans with agents and guilds

Chaos Effect likely inspired the latest film, but lacked any of the redeeming qualities of that toy line.
>>
>>218595123

IIRC it's because Goldblum was immediately available for a sequel right after Jurassic Park and Neill wasn't, so Spielberg made the stipulation that the sequel was going to be about Malcolm.
Or it could have just been ethnic nepotism.

You have very finite options for dinosaur thriller kino. JP, The Lost World, Carnosaur, the Primitive War series that I havent gotten to, then I guess you can go back to read the original The Lost World but it was a little dry. Id read both of Chricton's and then go on to Carnosaur which is peak 80s sex and gore slop yet somehow predicted many plot points from JP

there was a bunch of scored music for TLW that was unused. One was for the baby rex surgery scene and another for the Roland cliff rescue scene.
It doesnt really add much to the scenes but its cool to hear so i put some videos together
