At least when I was a kid the awards seemed like they were actually awarding based on skill. Oscars losing social importance is more about movies/theaters losing social importance. Given people are letting their brains get fried by short form content I'm not even sure it is in an indictment on the industry that it is fading away and more on the viewer having the attention span of a gnat. The Oscars do a better job of rewarding the artistry in the movie industry than the Grammys does for music.
