For some reason Sam kept him on and for some reason didn't suspect him years later (in IA 1) shit made no sense. 3 shouldn't have been made.

But I watched it again recently after a bit of a gap, and it's a rare masterpiece despite being "only" very good. A "masterpiece" usually needs that X-factor. Masterpieces are oddballs, or a little challenging, or have that upstart energy to them.The Departed is a thoroughly competent movie that's easy to watch and is a layup by a thoroughly lauded aging director. I thought it was an 8/10, but I now know for sure it's a 10/10.
