Really makes you think
>>
>>218614231
12 years slave was the beginning of the end
>>
>>218614231
best picture has rarely gone to a movie that is generally regarded as being in the top five of that year looking back, let alone the one that anyone thinks is the best
>>
>>218614231
Honestly, the Oscars get it wrong so consistently, that it would honestly feel like an insult to win it. I mean, look at that list. It is almost always wrong every time.
>>
>>218614267
Nah the King's Speech is a comfy but weak movie, same with The Artist. You can make arguments for the first four but after that is downhill except for Birdman, but that's mostly Keaton and Norton carrying a movie like they never did before.
>>
It is hard for me to imagine OBAA aging well as best picture. OBAA gets hype for being 'politically relevant' (which never bodes well for legacy) and for being a lifetime achievement for PTA. Sinners would have been even worse if it won.

Marty Supreme would unironically have been a bravest choice imo, even though that was never happening. This is coming from someone who thinks Marty Supreme is the weakest of the Safdie trilogy, and I wouldn't place Marty as my #1 choice for the year.
>>
>>218614231
King's Speech beating Social Network was completely ridiculous.
>>
>>218614267
Nope. Nominating ten movies for best picture when there weren’t ten movies that even deserved it released each year was the start. Read: slumdog millionaire

If you look at the list of every single winner since 1927 it’s mostly forgettable crap with one, maybe two iconic films per decade until you get to the 1970s, then just about every year is memorable with the occasional misfire until you get to the 2000s then its back to shit nobody saw more often than not.
The most deserving picture winning the award, or even a decent field of nominations, when considered for the entire history of the Oscars, tends to be the exception and not the rule.

TWBB was the main competition. Not sure who I would give it to.

Whiplash was main competition. I would give it to Nightcrawler or Interstellar, personally.
>Parasite
Good film. I would probably give it to OUATIH, just because I think that film is all encompassing of Tarantino as a filmmaker, but I wasn't upset by the Parasite win at all.
>Oppenheimer
I'd give it to Holdovers even though that was never happening.

Argo and Spotlight were decent. Haven't seen most of the other slop there. Hurt Locker was mediocre for sure. Birdman was embarrassing, trying way too hard to be seen as smart and artistic. What a travesty the oscars have become. I wouldn't even capitalize the ceremony's name.

Leftists would rather have these films instead of centrist kino? Shame on you. You'd rather /tv/ die than have Trump voters enjoy something. The irony of it all is that the Oscars are racist. Classics like The Godfather, Schindler's List, Titanic... none of them would have won Best Picture in 2026 because they didn't cast blacks in their period pieces where they didn't belong.

That's what gets us shit like "DEI Odyssey" a Nolan Joint. He's trying to win all the Awards just by playing the game. He doesn't like black people. Nobody does. But he wants his Oscar.
>>
>>218614231
Hell or Highwater obviously should've won over moonlight LEL. Possibly Dunkirk should've won over everything from 2017, which is just sad, what a garbage year in a garbage decade for movies. Black Panther was nominated the next year, holy lmao what a joke.

I wound up on Black Panther's wiki page, it's positive reviews from critics are insanely stupid. Like they're huffing laughing gas mixed with faggot juice.

>maybe two iconic films per decade until you get to the 1970s

This is simply because newer movies since the 70s have had way more exposure and mainstream availability due to home releases and development steady widespread recognition because of that and they’ve become part of the lexicon and examples used when talking about something. This is precisely why most people might know and seen maybe one of Universal’s iconic monster films from the 30s and 40s as well as some of Chaplin’s classics but then have no clue about who Harold Lloyd is and probably know the iconic clock hanging thing from Jackie Chan’s homage instead of the original film. There’s plenty of great films that most people don’t care to watch simply because they’re so old so with each passing decade they become less relevant due to no push to keep them relevant to pop culture. The Marx bros. comedies are still hilarious but nobody but film buffs talk about them and next to no young people have even seen them and the their only frame of reference is maybe a random Groucho reference they don’t even know is specifically a homage.

The only way things like Godfather, Apocalypse Now etc. remain in people’s minds is because there’s always new releases and it was often on TV and more recently you’ve had entire recuts done by Coppola that brings in entirely new people to them. Meanwhile most people have no clue about silent classics like Last Laugh. Even Metropolis requires you to actually have done some cursory research to movies these days even though it’s a classic

The most boring action scene of all time.

No I won't. Maybe they will fall off, but what they did was new and interesting for a time. The zeal loyalty people have to PTA is completely undeserved, and for what is basically filmbro slop. At some point you have to grow up beyond that sort of stuff. OBAA is a movie that feels dead throughout, with characters you feel nothing for, who commit actions you could not care less about.

Rather than type them all just type 20-1
Departed 20. 9/10 better than original
19. Only gets better over time 10/10
18. 4/10 kinda starts Bollywood
17. 5/10 a bomb scene is good
16. 2/10
15. 1/10
14. 3/10 a normal movie on Netflix
13. Django Unchained fuckin boys this
12. 8/10 inspired a lot of indie cinema the hook got lots of kids into films I know that
11. 3/10 kinda a story that needs to be told but not fun to watch at all
10. 7/10
9. 1/10
8. 3/10
7. 9/10
6. 5/10 this isn't really THAT bad its a good representation about what van life and nomad culture is like its not that interesting
5. 1/10 useless
4. 5/10 its all right i can't make myself hate it anymore its ok
3. 7/10 I think this was done really well I just think it deserved more disturbing or artistic content than a dry biopic
2. 4/10 best movie in the hooker with heart of gold genre not even being nominated in the 90s
1. 4.5/10 worst PTA but it had some interesting points and for once good characters in a movie just too ridiculous and overlong
