It's that they mushed together multiple storylines from several GitS works into a shitty mess that doesn't work, then made Major into some shitty girlboss character that doesn't work, and ruined the puppet master story.

Scarjo is far from ideal casting for Major but IMO she was good enough. Fully agree that mashing original storylines together was a mistake, and that the style is nowhere near the original. That's why I said it's better viewed as its own thing.
One of the best media experiences of my youth was smoking cannabis and watching the Ghost in the Shell anime. It was fucking great. The ScarJo one is okay, but you can't compare it with a classic.

And angry Scarjo can go get her revenge on the evil government for stealing her from her mommy. It's just such a dumb story compared to the original. The Puppet Master being a new digital lifeform that the secret organization is trying to recover and its trying to live and merge with Major is such a better storyline
