Hundreds of thousands of young people get scammed each year into attending predatory vocal/opera performance degree programs across the world. There aren’t enough jobs in opera, or even in shitty choruses, as most chorus gigs in regional opera “employee” volunteer scab singers. To make money, old singers scam young singers with big promises of careers in order to get butts in seats to keep college programs running. Predatory masterclasses, summer programs, and workshops also put young singers into debt. They tell you you have to pay all of this and do it because it’s the only way you can build an opera resume. 99.999% of these people completely fail, and most of those who get to continue on the field go into teaching just to continue to feed the machine, farming the next generation of young singers for their loosh. There should be 5 opera degree programs in the US, not 5 in each fucking city. It’s a giant scam, and Timothy Chalamet is a God damned hero for exposing the epic fraud perpetuated by modern voice/opera. Opera is dead.

I've been to the ballet a few times and it very much is a dead art form, just like Latin is a dead language.
