Had a rewatch of Titan A.E. on the weekend and I was wondering if there's any recent high concept sci-fi akin to it?
>>218627781I also second this
>>218627781No. Movies like that aren't gritty and realistic enough for modern audiences.
>>218627781I'm not sure if I've seen this or not. I mix it up with Treasure Planet and another one.
>>218627880Iron Giant or Atlantis?
>>218627781Zootpia 2, Goat, Hoppers

>>218627781This movie was tight as fuck. An utter shame it flopped and is still widely unknown to this day.

>>218627781>Any good recent sci-fi movies?Nope.

>>218630377I watched Life (2017) the other day just hoping for a decent Alien knock off, but it was so strange. The characters were completely idiotic, the horror was insanely cruel and sadistic, and it had such an anti-human perspective. It was like the whole movie was engineered to deliver the message to the audience: Humanity is stupid and deserves to die in the most cruel way imaginable. I think the reason why movies suck now is because they're not made to entertain, they're made to justify philosophies. And since most Hollywood people are out of touch, naive, and retarded, their philosophies suck.
>>218627781This would be better if it didn't lazily recycle the animation style from Anastasia
>>218627781Is this any good?
>>218630470Complete shit>>218630670Life (17) was unwatchable. 100% agree
>>218631086Not really.Fun concept, but heavily bogged down by Don Bluth's inability to keep a well paced story or develop characters. It's contemporary competitors are treasure planet, iron giant, and Atlantis, all of which severely mog it.
>>218627781I read the book for Project Hail Mary. That'll probably scratch your itch for "Human goes to space to save humanity".
>>218631181>>218630670Cool starfish alien though
>>218631432I agree, it was pretty cool visually. Monsters shouldn't be all-powerful though, it kind of ruins the stoy. Even Cthulu was beaten by an old wooden boat.
>>218631432It stopped being cool the moment it grew into a starfish, everyone became retarded and the monster became Chucky
>>218631288All excerpts posted here were godawful and the trailer was cringe
>>218628343Decent sci-fi movie but weird bad ending.Typical French writing.
>>218627781wtf, i wanted to make this thread, i desperately need to watch some scifi nowrecently watchedGood Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die (2025)rating - watchablealso watched one oldie that i skippedCowboys & Aliens (2011)rating - also watchable, could be even better if now for some stumbles, i took extended version and i think that was a mistakerewatchedBrazil (1985)still don't like it, tho i love gilliam, can't stand pryce or his characteralso rewatchedJohn Carter (2012)still love it, soothes my soul
>>218631578>All excerpts posted here were godawfulWell yeah, you're on 4chan.No one is going to post anything here in good faith.
>>218627781Treasure Planet
>>218631831I do, sometimes
>>218627781Watch Neon Genesis Evangelion series
Dredd 2012
>>218631831feel free to post a page that you think has good writing then
I quite enjoyed Prospect (2018). Felt like a video game movie.
>>218632386all modern movies feel like videogamesfunnily enough, all modern games feel like movies (at lest the ones with budget)And I hate it
>>218630493>>218630552>>218630612god I forgot how jank this movie lookedit's like Bluth looked at what Disney was doing with using CG to augment complex scenes but forgot that the whole point is to make it all blend together via art direction which Titan AE had none of
>>218632514yeah but that's different.
>>218627781please watch upgrade
I owned the Titan A.E. soundtrack on compact disc.
I don't care that this movie has its faults. The sequence and tension of the earth evacuation really stuck with me as a child. This movie is certifiably /comfy/ in my book, along with Iron Giant.
>>218632582I found the the general idea and the fight scenes interesting/promising, but the setting and beginning were trite, and the ending was extremely abrupt and half assed
>>218631731>>218627781I'd say The Expanse tv/book series is something you'd like. The aliens in there are comparable to Titan AE's Drej in that they're an existential threat to humanity and the rest of life in the galaxy but also overwhelmingly advanced technologically. They also like to use devices to terraform solar systems to support their life
>>218632886The movie is "not quite paradise but it feels like home"
>>218627781If by recent you mean last decade I'm sure we can find a couple

>>218632514>funnily enough>funnilyTHIS IS NOT A WORD.The word you want to use is IRONICALLY or COINCIDENTALLY.ENGLISH.Learn it.
>>218633426Memories probably comes closest, but it is also from 1995
>>218633534This is some good shit.
>>218633238butchered the comic book
>>218632234Sure. But first I need you to establish what qualities good writing has.
>>218633498"Funnily" became a word after "funny" became etymologically distant from the word "fun" and became synonymous with "odd" or "humorous" as opposed to "exciting" and "enjoyable"."Funnily" is every bit as correct as "oddly". It's the same logic by which "funnest" and "funniest" do not mean the and thing.Get rekt queer
>>218627781Not a movie, but a canadian puppet show called Brats Of The Lost Nebula
>>218634341Got his ass
>>218627781My friends thought I was hallucinating/mandela effecting this movie and when I showed them the music video, I saw their minds blown open and memories flood in real timehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=duE_pFsWWaA
>>218633432You should at least watch the intro scene, even haters admit it's kino.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yaGy7rwjsFE
>>218633432this would be much better movie with other leads
>>218632386>pedro fagcelpass
>>218634341Wrong. Funnily has been recognized as a word since the 1800s. However the way you use it is technically incorrect. The definition of Funnily means "strange" or peculiar (with a negative connotation). But as other anon pointed out, you are using funnily as a synonym for coincidentally, ironically, or surprisingly. Which is technically incorrect.
>>218637218>Funnily means "strange' or peculiarAs far as I can tell, he's saying it's odd, and even specifying it with negative connotation, that modern games resemble movies. You're trying to establish a mutual exclusion from with other words that suitably express similar or overlapping moods that doesn't exist. Nothing about what he said it incorrect, technical or otherwise.
>>218627781Definitely not rebel moon, shit was supposed to be the next big franchise, beyond disappointing
>>218634341This entire post is false. You are following the same online trends as people who use the word literally incorrectly.
>>218637427Exactly. It's a bunch of zoomers who want to co-opt words and use them incorrectly. Then we grandpa anons who want to appear trendy and copy the zoomers.
>>218627781You can't name a planet Bob.
>>218627781Doon bluth knocking it outta the park for the first halfSadly the last act of the movie is rushed and needed an actual villain so they made the captain suddenly hitler for no reason.
>>218641675Which is just short for Bobert
>>218639567>>218639902>online trendsThis isn't an "online trend". The word has been used in similar fashion for over a hundred years.
>>218643773Funnily enough i don't care
>>218633426
>>218638562Trying to force it to become a franchise was retarded, but the movie is solid.
>>218634341You are ESL.
