Especially toward the end, there was a lot of (x) happens because the plot needs it to and it causes the movie to really unravel. Like the anti technology boyfriend getting a mysterious VR headset and becoming INSTANTLY addicted. The side stories don't add much and I think would have been better served as seeing different entrances of "the future man" from the different perspectives in the diner patrons.
