Does anything beat the Probert Enterprise C Concept?
>>218630486The math doesn't lie.
How do you feel about Voyager's adjustable nacelles that change position for warp?Is it cool or stupid?
>>218630643A little stupid. It would be better if they were permanently up or down.
>create a wacky starship that can separate into two independent ships that are both warp capable>solve a million engineering challenges to make this possible>they use this feature like 3 times in 10 years
>>218630643The Intrepid-class nacelles are the weakest part of the ship visually. Should have retained some more of the design from the study model.
>>218630815Being pointy makes it more aerodynamic.
Choose your JJprise.
for me its the USS Motherfucker
>>218630815Yeah, the intrepid nacells are way to small for a ship class that is supposed to be the fastest ship in starfleet at the start of voyager.
>>218631006Sounds like that should be the flagship of Sisko's fleet.
>>218630798So what? Society is post-scarcity, there's no reason for even rare functionality to not be ridiculously over-engineered. Especially given that it can save a lot of lives when it IS used. In a hugely populated, largely-idle Earth, that's a perfect project to give teams of engineers a satisfying purpose for a couple of years. And remember that the Galaxy class are built to be Starfleet's best foot forward - the flagship-tier ships, usually engaging in diplomacy and exploration. They have entire teams of scientific and diplomatic people and often carry VIPs. They're exactly the ships that you give several layers of life-saving options, even if not cost-effective. When they build dedicated warships like the Defiant-class, the crew is much smaller and things like this are omitted for the sake of efficiency.
>>218630939I was sure there was no way to make uglier ships, and the I saw some of the shit in Picard and other nu-Trek.
>>218630643>>218630679>>218630815>>218631051Wasn't it like that so it could fly atmospherically and land on the surface of planets? Also what was the point of making Voyager smaller when they had multiple episodes where the ship got occupied and the crew was able to sneak around like guerillas as if they had way more space?
>>218632265https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/USS_AthenaJust look at this turd.
>>218630643It really wasnt that noticeable because the nacelles are small compared to the rest of the ship.I think they wanted a gimmick like the Bird of Preys moving wings, but it didnt add that much interest to Voyagers design.
>>218632639>Wasn't it like that so it could fly atmospherically and land on the surface of planets? It's never clearly stated why the nacels can turn like that in the show. There are a lot of fan theories out there that do make sense. And on the size of voyager, defiant is even worse, that ship is huge on the inside compared to it's actual lenght. And somehow they managed to put the warp core of a galaxy class in it too.
>>218632639It wouldn't have any problems landing with the nacelles in the upright position.I always assumed it shifted positions to optimize between warp and impulse. It makes sense to make Voyager smaller. The Enterprise is the flagship. It's supposed to be big and flashy and luxurious for transporting diplomats. Voyager is more of a work horse. But yeah, it seems a bit too small in shots like this.
>>218632741it has always been my assumption that warp and shielding is computationally more complex based on ship size and basically the supercomputers do all the work on both scenarios not a matter of reactor shit
>>218633000Voyager is tiny at times.
>>218633649>>218633000its supposed to be roughly constitution class size but more sleek and thats actually pretty small
>>218633649>>218633840Voyager is 344 meters long, 133 meters wide, and 66 meters high, so pretty small for a 24th century ship
>>218633649>vaadwaur>set up evil alien species with a wormhole network that can go all over the place >give them a reason to hate voyager crew and a way to get to them even if they moved on>never do anything with it.
>>218634157per the wiki>This episode was initially planned as a two-hour telemovie, but Braga and Menosky decided while writing part one that it would work better as a single hour. By the time the compressed version of the script was finished, their opinions had turned around again – but it was too late to re-expand the story. (Interview with Brannon Braga, Star Trek Monthly issue 58)>Although the final scene heavily implies the Vaadwaur would become a recurring antagonist to the crew, they did not appear again after this episode, apart from a brief encounter with a Vaadwaur ship in "The Void".
>>218630815Way better design.
>>218630798If the separated all the time is would lose its interest. When they used it in part 2 of Best of Both World, it made a much more exciting ending, the same with Generations.
>>218632741>And somehow they managed to put the warp core of a galaxy class in it too.Same design doesn't mean that it's identical. It's a very short version, while the Galaxy version spans 12 decks.
>>218630486Yes the Probert Cerritos
>>218630939The JJreliant is cool
>>218630939>>218636185retarded and bloated,like everything Abrams&Klutzman realted
>>218630798The saucer section could separate at warp but couldn't maintain it on its own.
>>218630815The finished TV Intrepid class is obviously much hotter looking and better suited for long range missions.
>>218635220The only good thing to come out of that show, it's a nice looking ship.
>>218635220stupid name sounding like a cheap serialstupid designif Probert actually did this, he was getting senile by that time
>>218637288When they separated they usually had some line about how the saucer section was going to head for the nearest star base. If it didn't have warp then that would be pointless. At impulse speeds they might as well be adrift. They would be better off conserving power.
>>218630798Saucer section only had impulse engines.
>>218632639I love the tiny feet
>>218639763
>>218639851>>218639763i really dont want a voyager rewatch right now but maybe it is time
>>218639851>land on a sunny planet>stick some chairs and a barbeque on the space behind the shuttle bay>crack some cold ones and crank the tunesWhy did they never do this?
>>218637791Okay but that doesn't change the fact that the saucer didn't have warp capability.
>>218630486Excelsior mk2Not even a contest, just a relentless mogging
this is now an Enterprise E thread
>>218641584enterprise Eat shit
