Book Frodo:
>Attacks Barrow Wight, tempted to escape but determined not to leave his friends behind
>Takes a swing at the Witch King at Weathertop and slices part of his cloak off
>Defiantly resists the Black Riders at Rivendell, demanding they will never have him or the ring

Movie Frodo:
>AHHHH HELP ME SAM HELP ME STRIDER
>Saved by Arwen instead of riding himself

And this is just Book 1 of Fellowship. Why was he changed so much in the movies?

Tolkien would have hated the movies. Not because of the action or hollywood shenanigans. But because they turned Gimli into a comic relief character. Tolkien despised the ridicule of dwarfs.
>>
>>218633176
That too. Gimli doesn’t have one line that isn’t a joke or him being an imbecile
>>
a lot of the character of hobbits is defined in the old forest and barrow downs, sucks that it was cut but thats a fundamental change.
>>218633333
checked
>>
>>218633075
Frodo is a wuss in the movies and the book
>sam its so heavy sam
>sam I cant do it sam
>sam
I skip frodo and sam on rewatches usually. Reading, its tempting to skip them there too.

Rest of the story is great but frodo is a wuss. Bilbo was stronger, had the ring longer, and didnt impact him as much
>>
>>218633333
Wrong wtf theres so many
>One Dwarf yet in Moria
>So the Fellowship has failed..
>She gave me 3
Now that I think about it Fellowship he wasen't really comic relief that was later in TT and ROTK
>>
>>218633075
If bookfags had their way, 90 percent of the trilogy would be camping and faggy songs.
>>
>>218633868
Bilbo was also living in his comfy hole that whole time, and didn’t have Sauron actively gunning for his ass.
>>
These movies were always overrated. Fellowship is the best one because the Bilbo part is awesome
>>
>>218633075
I've never seen the extended editions of the movies. Do the extra 2-3 hours actually help cases like frodo being useless, or do they just add more action scenes and stupid world building talking about the ancient lore of a destroyed elf building that was erected 40,000 years ago where they drank mead and sang songs about the grass
>>
>>218634054
The EE’s are the definitive way to watch them.
>>
>>218634111
For the hobbit too by chance? I heard those were just pointless filler
>>
>>218634236
No the only way to watch the hobbit is not to watch it
>>
>>218634236
there is a watchable hobbit edit that cuts like 90% of the films
>>
>>218633075
Frodo and the group weren’t attacked at Weathertop in the book. Gandalf was attacked at Weathertop.
>>
>>218633075
short """men""" can't be heroes
>>
>>218634297
It was shortly after in the same chapter , they left weathertop when they saw the Black Riders approaching

>>218633868
Frodo is far less a wuss in the book than the movies. He’s literally made to be punished by the story the entire time
>>
>>218633868
I think the ringbearer concept works better in the books because you imagine Sam as the man servant he is instead of a basically identical pretty boy Hobbit like Frodo
So you see Sam doing fine and Frodo just seems like a moper. The weight of the ring doesn’t factor in
>>
>>218634530
They’re historically the only ones who did heroic things. It was a back door to puss. Tall men just fucked around resting on their laurels
>>
>>218634279
Still three hours too long
>>
>>218634236
That’s the opposite. You’ll want the “Book Edit” for that. Cuts the trilogy down to a single film about the same length as Return of the King Extended.
>>
>>218633075
He tells Gollum he'll use the Ring to make him kill himself as well
>>
>>218634986
I’m not going to pretend like there isn’t a good movie to be had in there. It was just bloated with bullshit.
>>
>>218633075
The crazy thing is the hobbits could have actually taken at least four of the Ringwraiths at Weathertop maybe all 5(that attacked)
>>
>>218635099
there's an okay movie to be found inside there, none of its good
>>
>>218635128
How do you figure that? They’re literally immortal, barring special circumstances.
>>
>>218633954
We'd also have Tom Bombadil, the barrowwhites, and radagast
>>
>>218635183
I’m also not going to pretend like it’s amazing but on the level of “I really like Lord of the Rings, and would like to spend a little bit more time in Middle-Earth,” it serves its purpose.
>>
>>218635284
if it was actually filmed on location or even a soundstage sure but theres so much fucking cgi in the hobbit its extremely worthless for that purpose.
>>
>>218635217
They all have swords that can kill them
>>
>>218635284
There’s a few fanedits of the hobbit which is the best one?
>>
>>218634961
OTTOMH
Audie Murphy
>>
>>218633075
>Defiantly resists the Black Riders at Rivendell, demanding they will never have him or the ring
That kind of upset me the most when I read it. That was an extremely heroic and character defining moment in the book and it's just given to Arwen in the movies.

Also Elrond and Gandalf summon the Wrath of the Bruinen and not Arwen.
>>
>>218633954
>yes.jpg
>>
>>218635421
You start to notice it everywhere once you begin paying attention. And it just makes complete logical sense from an evolutionary perspective.
>>
>>218635323
Jesus, I get it, you don’t like it.
>>
>>218638999
have you seen the movies? it might be that you can't comprehend the scale of it
>>
>>218635333
They didn’t get those until Galadriel gave those to them as they were leaving Lothlorien. The ones they’ve got at Weathertop are just shitty toothpicks that Aragorn managed to scrounge up.
>>
>>218635363
If you google “Hobbit Book Edit”, I think that’s generally the agreed upon best one. The Maple Films edit isn’t bad either.
>>
>>218639029
I just think that we disagree, and that nobody is changing anyone’s mind. Notice how I didn’t resort to insults?
>>
>>218639052
no the opposite of that, the barrow down swords were westernesse blades made specifically to kill the witch king
>>
>>218633930
I'll give you one for TTT
>This is no rabble of mindless orcs: these are Uruk-hai. Their armor is thick, and their shields broad.
I also liked his delivery of "he fell" to Eowyn when they get to Helm's Deep. Simple yet effective, granted it was in reference to the Aragorn fakeout death which was kind of stupid. And then aside from the "aye, I can do that" line, all of Gimli's lines in ROTK are comedyslop.
>>
>>218634771
>Frodo is far less a wuss in the book than the movies
He still is one. The other 3 hobbits I like but have never cared for frodo. If anything Jackson gave an accurate portrayl with him vs the other characters

Have Bilbo carry the ring and he gives it up willingly at mount doom.
