>>218638856The reason dune was long scene as unadaptable was just because the environments, sets, props and costuming were all too extensive to be practical with traditional fx.Lynch's dune had a lot of production problems but the essence is that it costed the producers a truckload of money just because of all the props and effects necessary, and a lot of it ended up looking terrible even for the era because there was only so much that could be done.Since CGI got good enough to be passable the only thing really standing between Dune and a solid adaptation was penning a decent script. The original is cheesy and cartoonish with the boyhungry pedophile Baron crooning "piter, mien piter" while he floats around in his silly little antigravity toy, juxtaposed by long exposition dumps from the one-off ecologist character about how the weather works on Arrakis. You need to pick an artistic vision and a tone for your adaptation and rework the book around that. Lynch chose to lean into the silliness of the Harkonnen caricatures while the new adaptation basically took the book covers as its template for artistic vision and went from there.
