Shields are one of those world building things that are memorable but but actually very relevant in the source material. They're unusable on Dune, the Fremen don't have them at all. They become mostly irrelevant part way through OG Dune. Same with the whole Lasgun interaction thing, it only comes up like twice, not even especially consistently across those mentions.
