Watched it for the first time and its feels like 3 movies in one; part bond, part blaxploitation, part southern comedy.
The Louisiana scenes feel like something out of Dukes of Hazzard but I looked it up and that show didnt come out until the end of the 70s, same with Smokey and the Bandit, Cannonball Run and other "southern exploit" movies.

Did this movie inspire all that? You see a lot of soon to be common tropes like overconfident fat sherrif, races, hijinx etc

I've been watching the bond films in release order over the last month or 2 and i'm surprised at a lot of them, especially just how silly and stupid they are (in a good way).
The most recent one i saw was Moonraker and it was just an absolute piss-take from beginning to end, i absolutely loved it.

You compare it to the modern daniel craig ones, where he spends the entire 2 hours sniffing his own farts, and they whole thing just takes itself oh so seriously - these old ones are just way more entertaining.

Moonraker is so much fun

The sheriff was awful. He acted his heart out but it was just awkward. I also don't understand why they spent like 20 minutes on boat chasing but had the final battle against Yaphet Kotto last 30 seconds and end up with a joke.

there are moore bad bond films than good ones

So awful he got to act his heart out again in The Man with Golden Gun.

that's funny, because my uncle and dad watched this one recently and we all agreed he was the best character

him returning sealed the deal on his iconic antics

One of the things I like about old Bond flicks is how they aren't afraid to go to America. In the entire Daniel Craig Bond saga, they only go to America for about 15 minutes in the first movie and literally dont even leave the airport. Goldmember had Bond and company in the heart of Kentucky, eating at a fucking KFC with car dealerships in the background. Daniel Craig could never; its all just euroslop in exotic-sounding locations that have zero actual standing on a global espionage stage.

Kino. Diamonds Are Forever may be flawed but I enjoyed the shit out of 70s Vegas and the not-so-subtle Howard Hughes character.

Maybe it was that to the rest of the world where, it seemed like every movie in the early 2000s started taking place in the US exclusively and that just got boring to see. Movies set in NYC don't hit like they used, nor do any set in California.

Diamonds are forever would've been better with moore instead of connery
