It’s not just TV/movies, it’s also video games and really any fiction with more than one entry.
Always see zoom zooms going on about muh favorite franchise. I don’t really care, it doesn’t annoy me that much, just something I’ve noticed. I don’t think this was prevalent even 10-15 yrs ago, definitely not in the 90s. It seems to mostly apply to shit still getting sequels as I don’t hear it as much with old shit, never really hear ‘the Back to the Future franchise’ or Ernest or Police Academy or Rocky franchise etc. I generally just prefer to say ‘series’ or something along those lines. While we’re at it, it also mildly annoys me when people are recording with a digital device and say they are ‘filming’.

MCU, anon. Became more of a thing then since is heavy with licensed merch, and with rotating creators, it’s not that far off from what you’re used to hearing for ‘franchise’.

Wikipedia is edited by people that already have this in their lexicon. People did not call BTTF muh franchise in the 80s and 90s.
