The battle scenes were good. I liked the sequence in the beginning where they showed how the uniforms were recycled. I also liked how there was the political subplot that showed the big picture of what was happening in the war. The ending was a bit of a mixed bag, there was a case at the end of WWI, where a demoted American soldier still attacked the Germans minutes before the ceasefire and was killed by them after they had exhausted all other options. But in the movie they already show military discipline breaking down before the ceasefire, yet the Germans are still somehow able to go for one last push that leads to mass casualties.

But as a book adaptation it wasn't that good. The part that tickled my 'tism the most was that the high school kids were still so enthusiastic in 1917, when the blockage was really starting to tighten German belts.

It's dumb that they removed the part of the story about the alienation from society. It's a fundamentally different story from the older movies.

I'd go so far as to say "piss=poor", frankly. For some reason these people making "adaptations" always seem convinced they know better.

Tjaden doesn't fucking die. He's in the sequel ("The Road Back"), where he does unusually well.

It was okay but I didn't understand the moral of the story. War bad?
