the us civil war seems so absurd nowadays when you think men took up arms against each other because they cared so much against states rights
the country is 10x more divided in every aspect now and the thought of a civil war happening is just.. well it wouldnt happen

Historically civil wars happens when you have two rival elite factions vying for control (northern industrialists vs southern plantation owners).
That was the case in mid 19th century America but there really isn't a rival faction to today's elite.
