Star Wars didn't come out in Japan until after 0079, and they would have both been in production at the same time.

Star Wars is just a Kurosawa ripoff.

You are now aware 80s-90s anime is kino because they plagiarized western content without paying a thing, and then after the 90s Hollywood woke up and made they stop doing it and then anime moeblob happend and hollywood started to plagiarize anime things for their movies.

Hidden Fortress in fact

Not even remotely.
Like a lot of stuff Japan produced around that time, it's them coming to terms with the fact that they were on the losing side "but not really the bad guys" in WW2.
>well yes, but the soldiers suffered so bad! Where is your humanity?
>ACTUALLY *war* is the problem. Humans do not choose to participate in wars. War is a metaphysical force that asserts itself upon people!

Not to shit on it, or Japan. It's a good show.
Actually, I like this stuff a lot more than the chest beating "we number one!" American bullshit, or Britain's weird cope of pretending to still be a major world power, or some kind of scraggy bulldog who singlehandedly took out those Jerries(by allying with Stalin).

>read a book about the production of the show that is also somewhat of a autobiography of the author and his experience growing up with Gundam

When the Gundam was still in production, star wars came out in Japan. The director went to the movie and came angry over the fact Japan can't do proper irl scifi epic- something he wanted to do but can't, not with real life stuff with Japan' film industry.
