Why is modern SNL so bad at political sketches compared to the old days? Was it losing Jim Downey and Al Franken as their main political cold open writers? SNL needs to go back to hiring rich white guys from Harvard again instead all these dang angry nose ring pink hair they/them pronoun DEI women writers they got nowaday

>Al Franken
He's been allowed out of sex-pest exile to endorse Minnesota democrats, btw. I just got a press release last week talking about how he supports (random Minneapolis bluehair).

Checked and Phil was a national treasure.

idk if the fix is that simple, Colin Jost IS a rich white guy from Harvard and he's been a writer there for about 20 years, they just put out this video with him about the cold opens where he guesses he's written about 100
https://youtu.be/dPX_Y7JjALI
I think the way they do it now is just what does better on lowest common denominator social media, the cold opens usually get more views than any other sketch still

Why does SNL have its own app?

Why don't *you* have your own app?

I'm more of a SNL hater, but the Clinton sketch and the Family Feud sketches with Burt Reynolds are absolutely cinematic.

I forgot who said it but it was an SNL alum who said that in order to do a good parody, you have to like the person that you're making fun of on some level. Modern SNL writers absolutely despise the people that they're making fun of, so it comes off as bitter and sour comedy.

think that was Norm who was asked what he thought of all the Trump stuff on SNL (with Baldwin as Trump at the time, this was back in like 2016 or 17) and he said hes not a fan of "agenda-comedy" and basically went into that thing of you cant be funny if you dont like the person a little and are just going into it with pure foaming at the mouth hatred for the person on why he didnt think Baldwins impression worked. that was one of the comments they tried to cancel him for (in that same interview they also tried to lynch him for the "im glad that MeToo crap is finally slowing down, these angry bulldykes are getting out of control accusing every man on the planet for something" lol they dont make em like Norm anymore
