Is it really cheaper to CGI and VFX in a background city than to just shoot it in the actual place?
>>
>>218691109
These movies are unsalvageable. Bill Pope shot Shang Chi and it still looked awful, there's just no way to fix the damage.

How would one even CGI a whole city?
>>
>>218691109
No, but it's easier to make changes when your retarded producers change their mind 20 times during production
>>
>>218691109
I unironically watched the trailer on the Playstation channel on youtube and thought this was a video game and not a movie, lmao.

>>
>>218692393
This is the actual reason. Modern movies, especially capeshit, are designed to be constantly adjusted due to test audiences and consultants. Streaming companies especially push this since data analytics can identify "low attention" scenes. Movies are made for shareholders, not viewers, and the only goal is to generate short term profit and appease shareholders who do not watch movies but like buzzwords and graphs.

On top of being funny, it's also completely understandable why Marvel's gotten completely cucked and shut out of Imax for this AND Avengers

I was actually taken back by how fucking bad this looked, and that was their opening shot of a reveal trailer, that's your best first impression????
>>
>>218691109
Probably not. But that's one MAJOR reason why I hate most blockbuster Hollywood flicks nowadays, because NOTHING in them is real. It's all CGI slop. Hell, even the grass in these flicks is CGI. And speaking specifically about the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer, I wish Ned and MJ didn't appear in this movie. It's called 'Brand New Day' but it's not really a fresh start? We're still harkening back to the past? That sucks and I say this as someone who actually likes Ned and MJ.

>>
it sounds cheaper doesn't it?
>>
>shooting in a city
>daily permits costing thousands of dollars
>have to transport actors, crew, equipment, trailer, lighting, catering to the city
>can only shoot on a fixed number of days and hours if it's a day and/or night scene

>vs

>put up a green blanket in a the studio and do whatever you want unlimited times
>can change the entire scene in post as many times as you want if audience tests poorly
>pay pajeet at DurgaSoft Studios 100 rupees per shot

MCU slop is genuinely some of the worst looking flicks I have ever seen. I just don't understand how people love this shit. Its not just the they CG the shit out of everything but that it looks bad.

Absolute skill. I remember Shang Chi looking better than most MCU slop but from what I understand a huge chunk of the CG and action scenes are made before they have a real director or DoP.
>>
>>218691264
>>218696309
Pope has done nothing but slop for the past decade. They need someone like Fraser or Deakins, but they won't hire DPs with actual visions because they need corporate yes men who can stick to their strict timelines

It is when the VFX studio promised to do it on the cheap and quickly. Sadly because of a such low bidding system, it looks like crap.
CGI and VFX often looked better in the 00s and even 90s when they did effects in house or with specific dedicated studios.
Plus, with modenr VFX, when they redo effects last minute for reshoots and testvaudience input, it looks even worse.

Its London, because every Hollywood film is made there on account of it being classier.

What they did do was digitally alter it to remove iconic buildings like The Houses of Parliament and the Shart, replacing them with more American looking buildings like a giant christ the redeemer style statue of their God-King and skyscrapers with enormous murals of people being shot by "law enforcement" as a warning to the local population to "know their place".
>>

state tax deductions, that's why it compensates to inflate the budget with CGI
>>
>>218691109
>Why does it look cheap?
It's because Sony wants to keep holding onto the rights for Spiderman and all things connected to it. It runs out every 5 years or so which is why they put out all those bad movies technically connected to Spiderman but will never ever have them interact with him. It renews their rights to Spiderman and allows them to license Spiderman and all things related to Disney in a way that makes them money
>>

it is when the script changes every other day or entire scenes have to be reworked after test screenings. instead of reshooting everything they just swap backgrounds
