Could they use AI to remove laugh-tracks from old TV shows? I hate the laugh tracks.

It's alien and weird.

Plus it makes it apparent that only maybe 1/10 jokes lands. Stuff like Seinfeld and Frasier don't need it but the vast majority of sitcoms seem utterly bizarre when you remove it.

Why would you need AI?

so they removed the laughs but left in the extra footage where the laughs went so you have a lot of dragged out pauses?

Big Bang Theory is like that for sure. For me, Young Sheldon is such an uncomfortable show because it feels like the jokes should have laugh tracks, but Young Sheldon doesn't have a laugh track, it's hard to tell what's even supposed to be a joke in that stupid ass show.

But BBT is stupidly bad, removing the laugh track might hold up for Seinfeld or even Friends, the jokes in those shows are usually more about subtle awkwardness and I feel like no laugh track might keep the shows more subtle and funny.

I saw one clip where they removed the laugh track from Two and a Half Men and it was basically just Charlie berating Alan and Alan being depressed, without the laugh track the show like almost seemed like it was supposed to be tragic or something, it was kind of funny in a weird way

Denoising, it could detect laugh frequencies and only remove the laughing frequency instead of surrounding dialogue. Denoising like that isn't really a new thing, but recent AI tech might be even cleaner idk

I can deal with laugh tracks what drives me up a wall is stuff like the entire first season of Seinfeld where the whole show has to stop cause the audience needs to clap and scream in appreciation for Kramer appearing. This goes on for multiple seasons till they finally curbed it. That's what annoys me.

I still remember tbs airing a ad for big bang theory but it didn't have the laugh track on it and it was weird as fuck.

Sometimes removing one thing changes the whole dynamic of a series. Two and a Half Men is a laugh track away from going from comedy to tragedy.

but then how will we know when the characters have said something funny?
