I've never seen a movie that captured that side of his character, they portray the rage and brutality very well, but never the cold, calculating, and ruthless strategist and tactician prosecuting a clandestine war against organized crime itself, not just a few individual mobsters. What the Punisher is doing goes so far beyond simple revenge. He's not fighting battles against criminals, he's fighting a war against crime, it's vastly different than what the movies portray. If you ask me, it's only too obvious why Hollywood never wants to portray him as anything but a big dumb jock who kicks in the door with a dozen machine guns strapped to himself and wastes hundreds of goons who can't shoot straight.

But it flopped because it wasn't enough big budget set piece gun battles. Hensleigh said he didn't have the money for that stuff.
