Kelly is a character who airs his grievances about various insignificant inconveniences in his comics, he's bitched about his specific local supermarket, his ex-wife, his in-laws, etc, using the strip before. The joke here is that he's a lame boomer who misses his superhero slop, and to a lesser degree the absurdity of him complaining it's been too long (because they put tons of them out) or that Hollywood is dismissive of the genre (they shove it down our throats). One of the 'character development' installments of the overall comic.
