Why do you keep posting this? Dunk's shield wouldn't look like that mess, that's so retarded. Even the sigil in the show is too detailed and realistic.

It would be bright and simple like this so it can be easily recognized even from far away.

>Harmund II Hoare spent his youth as a ward of the Lannisters at Casterly Rock. Once King of the Iron Islands, Harmund married Lady Lelia, the daughter of the King of the Rock and the "fairest flower of the west". Their children were raised in the Faith of the Seven.
>When Lelia's eldest son became king as Harmund III Hoare, he was opposed by many ironborn and the priests of the Drowned God for his opposition to reaving, salt wives, and thralls. A priest known as the Shrike led a quick and successful rebellion which crowned Harmund's younger brother, Hagon Hoare, who restored ironborn traditions. Harmund III and the Dowager Queen Lelia were both mutilated for having turned away from the Drowned God. Lelia's lips, ears, eyelids, and tongue were removed, after which she was sent by longship back to the Rock.
>The then-King of the Rock, Lelia's outraged nephew, went to war against the ironborn. Hagon the Heartless was defeated by Ser Aubrey Crakehall in the seventh year of fighting. Before being hanged, he suffered the same mutilations which had been done to Lelia.
Aegon should have nuked the Iron Islands.

A military alliance I'd wager. The Ironborn might be retarded when it comes to most aspects of life but they are decent fighters.
Marry off a greenlander daughter to an ironborn lord then have him sic his raiders on your rivals lands or call him for aid when things start to get dicey. If you made an alliance with one of the more reliable Ironborn houses like the Harlaws they might just show up when asked for aid.

Depends on the context, if a single knight named the wife of the lord hosting the joust then it might be seen as a show of respect to the lord and the lady might even be flattered.
If it's a random married lady then some rumors might start and depending on how level headed the husband is some trouble could be caused.
>>
>>218843361
Probably wouldn't do shit as Aegon would have resolved things without being too weak (Aenys) or violent (Maegor). Also doesn't make sense that Aegon and Rhaena weren't betrothed, but I guess it was for plot reasons.
>>218843431
I think it depends, Ser Ryam Redwyne named Queen Alysanne as Queen of Love and Beauty, or Aemon with Naerys - both it didn't cause anything, but alas, we know the shit Rhaegar caused by making Lyanna (fiancee to Robert) his QoLaB

It only turned into a shitshow after Rhaegar kidnapped her like a year later.
>>
>>218843675
The rebellion sure, but Rhaegar making her Queen did cause a scandal
>Ned remembered the moment when all the smiles died, when Prince Rhaegar Targaryen urged his horse past his own wife, the Dornish princess Elia Martell, to lay the queen of beauty's laurel in Lyanna's lap.
>Brandon Stark, the heir to Winterfell, had to be restrained from confronting Rhaegar at what he took as a slight upon his sister's honor, for Lyanna Stark had long been betrothed to Robert Baratheon, Lord of Storm's End. Eddard Stark, Brandon's younger brother and a close friend to Lord Robert, was calmer but no more pleased. As for Robert Baratheon himself, some say he laughed at the prince's gesture, claiming that Rhaegar had done no more than pay Lyanna her due...but those who knew him better say the young lord brooded on the insult, and that his heart hardened toward the Prince of Dragonstone from that day forth.

I think there's an unspoken rule that the KGs could name anyone since they have already vowed to take no wife

I agree. Naming someone "official" like the queen or the wife/daughter of the lord who's hosting the tourney qolab is probably ok and shows respect. If you do it to some random betrothed girl it probably shows your hitting on her though.

A big part in Rhaegar's case was also that he rode past his own wife and gave it to someone else. That's a pretty big scandal in itself.

Blaming Jaehaerys for the Dance is just as dumb as blaming Rickard Stark's southern ambition for the whole fiasco surrounding Robert's rebellion btw. Both made the most logical choices a lord in their position could have made and their ill consequences were something even the most schizophrenic doomers couldn't imagine.
>>
>>218842778
This is false and based on half baked understanding of how sigils worked.

Dunk is not a noble lord with banners that need to be recognized from a distance.
He's a knight whose personal coat of arms is meant to be seen from up close and personal.
It's perfectly normal for it to be very detailed even if it's obscured at a distance.
>>
>>218843507
The Hound shocking Ned and all bystanders by naming Arya his queen!
>>
>>218844721
Jaehaerys fucked up when he messed with the succession due to his own sexism.
By all legal rights due to Aemon being his firstborn son and heir, Rhaenys was the rightful claimant for the throne since she was his only child. Even Andal laws and traditions say a daughter comes before an uncle in matters of inheritance, but Jaehaerys didn't want people getting ideas about having women inherit due to his own status of having usurped his sister's right to the throne.
Now some of it is understandable, he didn't want the Velaryon's taking over, but he really murked up the succession rights when he named his second son heir over her, then even more so when he decided to let the lords of Westeros choose who they'd prefer.

Dunk’s shield reminds me of Elden Ring. Glintstone shooting above a great tree.

FromSoft games in general share a lot of themes. I replayed Bloodborne the other day and noticed that the Pthumerians are more or less the Lorathi mazemakers.

The Maesters of the Citadel + The Church of Starry Wisdom = The Academy of Raya Lucaria (basically not!Hogwarts with a cosmic horror twist).

We don't have enough of a sample size to determine if gender matters when it comes to magic.
Mel seems like one of the higher tier magic user's we've seen.
Thoros of Myr is pretty good but even he admits he doesn't really know what he's doing half the time.
Moqorro is pretty powerful and from what we've seen might be Mel tier.

George said that he doesn’t like magic that is taken for granted or consistently reproducible. He doesn’t like spells where you say six specific words for a concrete effect every single time without issue or any consequence. Magic should be like poking at radiation before you even know what radiation is. Magic to George is a “system” not a system. How much of a ritual is truly necessary? Does it matter? What if the ritual isn’t the true decider of the outcome? Do they know that?

it's all esoteric versions of skinchanging, I think a lot of that stuff makes more sense viewed through the lens of things like panpsychism. Wights are dead men who's souls are trapped and being controlled by Others. Shadow babies no fucking idea desu, maybe you're taking a piece of their soul and controlling it which is why it looks like Stannis. I also think the idea of "power resides where men believe it to be" or whatever is related in some way, king's blood having power for magic because of the collective consciousness believes the blood to be important. This also would open the door for stories having a direct effect on cultures through things like mythology and legendary figures of the past
>>
>>218853288
It’s animism. Nature/magic is alive. It’s all tied to the psyche/emotion. You see a few parallels in the east. The trees of the warlocks and the glass candles emulating the weirwoods and their green seers.

>Shadow babies no fucking idea desu
Stannis dreams of himself murdering his brother. It’s likely his psyche/lifeforce had played a deeper role than anticipated.

Magic favours some. Disfavours others. It favoured the Valyrians for a long time. It’s weird since magic is a cruel asshole who bites back. You have to wonder how they (the Valyrians) managed such sorcerous infrastructure for so long. The Doom also shook magic to its core globally. Valyrians did something to upset it.

This might be why magic takes different shape despite having the same or similar function as >>218853470 mentions. The glass candles used by the Valyrians had the same powers as the green seers, but are shaped and used differently.

>Andal laws and traditions

More a tradition than a "law", seeing as there are no official courts in Westeros and rulings are whatever the local lord decides.

We see that Rohanne Webber's father was willing to let her inherit if she got married but if not, the lands and titles would go to his male nephew.

On the flip side, we have nonsense like Lysa Arryn nee Tully having complete control of the Vale and everybody just accepting this, despite her being a widow and Cersei (who everybody still strangely calls a Lannister despite being married to a Baratheon) automatically becoming regent and everybody just accepting this.

tl;dr it's whatever Gurm wants at the moment.

Some trivia about this. GRRM is old enough that he was only able to properly view Plate Tectonic Theory when he was in college. As in, Plate Tectonics was not an accepted theory during his formative years. It was still Continental Drift as the main theory during the 1950s and early 1960s. Since GRRM never actually tried to make a map for ASOIAF on his own, and needed someone else to make maps for him, we can see the Arm of Dorne expose his shortcomings. As >>218852195 indicates, GRRM is allergic to any order with magic. Arm of Dorne demonstrates that GRRM simultaneously refuses to explain events in the setting as a result of natural processes, but then refuses to elaborate on the magic that must substitute for said processes. He's eating his cake while trying to have it too.

If Arm of Dorne detonated from underneath, there would still be volcanoes in the Stepstones. There are none. The only volcano anyone sees in ASOIAF is at Dragonstone. A meteor to the Arm of Dorne is a much better explanation, but this has been ruled out by... actually idk why it's ruled out besides it being a lorefag's theory so that automatically makes it wrong somehow. So the sea actually just broke that continental isthmus in a short time period, with no erosion patterns? Fucking magic, and GRRM doesn't want to explain shit. I bet he'd get angry if fans suggested it was just a tidal causeway.

It's both hilarious and sad the Fat Man will throw mashed potatoes in an autistic rage because anyone dare to exercise more fiat with his writing after he already opened the door on magic. Dragons are magic abominations made out of different animals fused together, but the MUST have only 4 limbs because all other animals have 4 limbs, OKAY!? Someone should drag the Fat Man to India and show him the thousands of fenugreek human centipedes that are born every year.

>If Arm of Dorne detonated from underneath, there would still be volcanoes in the Stepstones.

It's magic, there was no need for volcanos. It appears to be a case of the CotF magic sinking/lowering the surface of the planet under the Arm of Dorne and the Neck, in fact we see that their magic was already failing when the Neck didn't sink completely as they had expected. This resulted in them going all out on creating the Others as magical bio-weapons, which backfired on them.

>GRRM doesn't want to explain shit.

As others have pointed out, Gurm doesn't want to get into the details and mechanism of magic, he just needs this or that character to do whatever to move the story in the direction he wants it to go.

Again, it's whatever Gurm wants at the moment. He only cares about the story, not the mechanisms of law, culture, magic, geography, etc.

An analogy might be comparing Star Wars to Star Trek. With SW, it's whatever is cool (like light sabers) and who cares how it works while with ST, they at least try to come up with a quasi-scientific explanation (like transporters).

Not everyone and even those close to him just tolerated him including Ned, Stannis, Renly, his Kingsguard and nobles who lived in KL, plus Targ loyalists.
>yet no-one stands up for "his" kids
You can thank Cersei and Joff being stupid fuckers, despite not being universally loved everyone who knew Ned Stark or heard about him knew he was a pretty honourable guy, and Joff executing him did some bad damage especially by doing it in the stairs to the Great Sept of Baelor.

Robert's kids are seen more as Lannisters than Baratheons even from the people who don't believe that they are Bastards, and the Lannisters are highly unpopular. Bobby G was also a shit king for a dozen years after being a chad during the rebellion.

With the golden company, you have to consider that a lot of the westerosi are nobles that got stripped of their lands for one reason or another, and a change of dynasty is pretty much their only longshot of getting their lands and station back.

>>

>there's this army of guys across the Narrow Sea that are a generational army of mercenaries that are undyingly loyal to a King that died generations ago
Some of them are. Most are just Westerosi who ended up having to live as mercenaries for some reason or another, and the Golden Company just happens to be the best place for them. Sitting Aegon on the throne is a way for them to return home while also getting richly rewarded. Any allegiance they might have to the Blackfyres or Targaryens is secondary to all that for most of them.
>>
>>218859836
Na, they had a really good shot with Viserys right after the war (when Westeros was weak) and they decided to go "Nah, it's OK we'll wait for a Blackfyre". I get Aegon was a late addition and needs tons of free stuff to catch up, but it's just an awful contrivance.
>>
>>218854663
There is a lot that doesn't make sense with the world George made for his story about kings and dragons. It's obvious he doesn't have an explanation about the breaking of the arm of Dorne because it's pretty irrelevant to the rest of the story. Don't think too much about it.
>>
>>218859935
Had they though? When? Who would have joined except Dorne and the Reach? And only the Reach was still on full strength. Dornish lost a lot during the trident, Vale, Riverlands, Stormlands and North are solidly in the Robert camp and the Lannisters killed the last Targaryen king and Rhaegar's kids. 10k mercs and MAYBE the reach and Dorne against the rest of Westeros? For a boy-king?
>>
>>218859935

Lyonel isn't really a good guy. He likes to have fun but when Dunk tells him of all his troubles he just goes "idk bro sounds like poor people issues lmao". He only really joins the Trial for his own glory rather than Dunk and he probably wants Dunk for similar reasons. He also hates Targaryen fucking shits and is generally irreverent, which chafes with Dunk's honest belief in values of honor and duty.
Also he gives off incredibly gay vibes and Dunk doesn't want to be anally penetrated.
Also because he's a non-character in the novel and doesn't offer there so Duncan obviously doesn't go.

Because she IS a Lannister and never will be a Baratheon. GRRM's idea of marriage is the American modern one, not the classical European aristocratic one.

Nobles and royals don't take on their husband's name. They remain of their own house, but did fill in for their husbands when needed. Widows frequently returned to their original house if they left childless, or became regents/advisors for underage/young lords.

Its just Laenor was SUPER homo and couldn't do it, not that they tried too hard since Jace was born like a year into the marriage.
Also the show makes it so fucking hilarious how Laenor jumped at the chance to fake his death and run away from his "kids" to Essos, like no one realized how fucking racist stereotype that is for a black guy?
>>
>>218880219
Laenor should have at least begged Daemon to fuck Rhaenyra so no one would suspect that their children were bastards
>>
>daughter got raped by The Mountain
>bent the knee the first chance they got
GRRM really went overbpard with his Bracken hateboner here
>>

Nah they're cucks

The Lannisters are going to force them to keep Gregor Jr. for the ultimate humiliation ritual
>>
>>218880737
Why wouldn't you just hunting accident him out of the picture?
>>
>>218880385
Didn't even have to beg Daemon, Rhaenyra could have just fucked one of the many Velaryon cousins that Laenor has, or any dragonseed on Dragonstone, there were plenty of options but that dumb bitch chooses the one guy who's genetics are Strong enough to overtake the traditional Valyrian looks, and if that wasn't bad enough she didn't have the brain power to know to stop after the first kid came out brown haired and pug nosed.
>>
>>218880776
Cause they're Brackens, they're dumb cucks
>>
>>218880593
They did? Never heard of that happening:

Most riverlords bent the knee after the red wedding. The blackwoods decided to continue fighting so the brackens helped the lannister siege them in exchange for some of the blackwoods' land.

If bloodraven was so powerful then why was he a cuck and why did he always fail to kill bittersteel? This is why I don't buy the bloodraven is behind everything theory

His daughter getting raped I meant.

re-watching GoT with no breaks between season really shows you Cersei deserved that walk of shame

He is behind all the plots but his plots don't always work

true she wants to be as ruthless as Tywin but she's retarded and has none of the redeeming qualities

Because grrm assumes that gays are as disgusted by the thought of straight sex, as heteros are disgusted by the thought of gay sex.

I mean, could (You) do gay sex, even if your life depended on it?

I have this horrible suspicion that HotD S3 will actually be good and that will ruin my whole narrative
>>

Grrm himself takes asoiaf way less serious than a lot of his readers. He has a kight named Uther Shett (utter shit), and sesame street names for Lords of Riverrun. The Sword of the Morning might be a dick joke. Etc.
>>
>>218849753
Because GRRM needed that culture existing in order to, in his mind, make Westeros more interesting. When in fact their continued existence makes no sense at all. The Rock would've conquered them a long, long time ago.
>>
>>218882197
lol
>>
>>218882215
maybe that's what happened

the Rock has conquered and genocided them dozens of times, but the colonists they plant there always end up going native and within a few centuries begin chimping out again

It's a nice theory but no. GRRM makes it clear that they were never "repeatedly conquered and genocided."

Which makes no sense, of course. Your theory makes more sense, but is unfortunately untrue.

It's a dick joke and Arthur Dayne is a reference to a Marvel character.
