They are just not beginning to realise there is something special on Earth, thanks to Conquest returning.

We see that in Nolans flashback that the smallest mercies are completely disregarded in the Viltrum Empire and that they choose to kill as a solution. Mark has been battling this question since his start as a hero when his dad literally shows him you can just kill thousands of people. Mark gets further pushed by this when his alt selves literally destroy Earth and enact a fucking extermination campaign on the heroes of the world. Mark is LEARNING his way, so you will see him go thru the discovery, process and then learning from his experience. That doesn't mean Mark doesn't believe in death or that death is the right answer. It means that Mark as an adult is learning that every choice has a consequence and he must choose the make the choice he can live with the consequences of. Naturally as a child he prioritizes the preservation of his original most important things: family and friends. But as he gets more experienced with the world this becomes harder as it means he will literally sacrifice thousands to save them.
