>I've killed women and children. I've killed just about everything that walks or crawled at one time or another. And I'm here to kill you, Little Bill.
The last 10 minutes of Unforgiven is some of the best and most quotable cinema of all time
>>
>Who's the fellow owns this shit hole?
>>
>>218925043
It would take centuries to kill one of each of the 8 million currently known species on the planet, not accounting for the millions of unknown creatures. Even generously taking his "just about" into account and calling it 7 million instead of 8 is absurd when you factor in travel time and locating rare species in inhospitable and remote locations. Furthermore who would fund such an endeavor?

The last 10 minutes only work as they do because the whole movie builds up to that. A lost art, building up dramatic tension and achieving a meaningful storytelling climax. At least for Hollywood.

the whole movie is building to that moment. Bill didn't want to do anymore killing, drinking, etc. He just wanted to get the bounty and go back to his life
But after they killed Ned it was over. He took a sip of that whiskey and you just knew he was gonna turn into the Grim Reaper and kill them all

Overrated le badass boomer flick.

Funny though how Clint was already playing an old man in the 90s and he's still doing it.

The Silent Generation that was too young to fight in WWII and gave birth to most Baby Boomers

This is probably one of the best modern love story I've ever encountered.

Despite Claudia only ever being mentioned, the impact her love had on the world around her (even after her death) affected MULTIPLE lives pretty heavily.

I like that you underage the value of her love by it's absence, not it's presence. I wonder if I'll feel that way about my mother's maternal love once I leave her to venture out.
>>
>>218926359
people keep regurgitating this shit, its still wrong. whatever the intentions were, the film still portrays a tired, naive power fantasy where the retired badass is forced back into his violent ways by some act of cruelty against someone close to him. its just john wick but pretends at the same time to be a deconstruction. if it was serious about that, clint should not have been successful in his revenge. little bill or one of his henchmen should have randomly gotten the drop on him just like what happens to english bob
>>
>>218926787
Good post
I guess I never really thought about the dead wife's role in all this other than her being the one he changed for
The film is pretty explicit about "no one knows why she married this man of notoriously vicious and intemperate disposition"

Not everybody is the same. Therefore not everybody has the same interactions available. Some people might only know a person as bring frigid and ruthless, and others will only ever know of them as being kind and considerate.

Perhaps all the most violent people in this world could be changed if they met a particular person. It might not even be someone opposite.

Humans fail to understand they are a gestalt phenomenon, composed of trillions of microbes. There's no telling what will emerge when two or more of these Hypercolonies meeting.

Think of it like two cultures meeting.

You clearly didn’t watch the extended cut, where a flashback shows a younger Munny shooting a Greater Yellowlegs, taking out his birdwatcher’s guide, crossing it off, and then zeroing in on a Lesser Yellowlegs. Even with the extended cut, they still didn’t think showing a full explanation of how he got around to killing one of every animal like a mad version Noah who was only half as productive was a good use of their screentime. But I think it implies enough that we can work out how he did it.
>>
>>218925319
He's still doing it
>>
>>218950426
>That's right. I've killed women and children. I've killed just about everything that walks or crawled at one time or another. Even times far beyond your comprehension. Them new skeletons that Cope fellah is digging up? Well, they’re not really new, see? They’re actually rather old. Because I killed them, long ago. Before things got real chilly for a while there. Some of them lizards were awful big. Same as those furry elephants that came later. I tell you what, I had to use a bigger caliber on ‘em than I would need for you or any of your boys here, Little Bill. And I am here to kill you, Little Bill, for what you did to Ned. Taking his life yourself. He was on my list Little Bill. You done robbed me and now you’re gonna die.

I don’t know why anyone’s debating this. Munny is clearly meant to be the angel of death. I found this scene bone chilling the first time I watched it. I understood what he was immediately.

This is such a retarded take. Do you think nobody ever killed nobody before current generation? Do you think nobody was a fighter before current generation? I'm not saying a 60 year old could beat the 20 year old version of himself but William Munny was the best, most cold blooded killer in his youth. Even as an old guy he'd still be more than a match for the average cowpoke, especially when we're talking about shooting people rather than physical fighting. Take this example of an old pro boxer vs "average young guy" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSveUJtkg4c
>>
>>218926810
The difference is english bob was a fake, his reputation greatly exaggerated. On the other hand Munny really was everything that was said about him.
>>
>>218925043
Based Clint taking out nigger Caillou
>>
>>218953736
what?
>>
>>218936876
No one's saying Will had perfect info, the point is that it *didn’t matter* whether it was as bad as the Kid described. The exaggeration is the whole mechanism that sets the plot in motion. The whores needed a mythic atrocity to justify hiring a mythic killer. Munny doesn’t ride out because he’s carefully verified medical reports, he rides out because he’s broke, sick of being a failed farmer, and tempted to step back into the legend people built around him.

The reality being smaller than the rumor is exactly what the movie’s poking at. Violence becomes this inflated story everyone tells themselves to make it clean and righteous. Then when it actually happens it’s ugly, pathetic, and not cinematic at all. That’s why the reveal hits - not because Will was “wrong,” but because the whole revenge narrative is built on bullshit from the start.

That'd be the Boomers, the GG were cartoonishly racist and had to be begged by the government to stop collecting human skulls to send to their girlfriends in the Pacific. The Holocaust had to be invented after the war because if they had actually told the guys who fought in it that they went through all of that to help Stalin take half of Europe, they would've besieged washington and hanged every member of Congress from the same streetlamp.
>>
>>218926810

What’s hilarious about comments like these is that women back then were tougher and had far greater hardships than the betas who write the comments. These faggots wouldn’t last a day in the woman’s role during the 40’s and the fact that they think they could fill the man’s role; that’s beyond batshit insane. It’s an entire group of men who can’t achieve and so they b on a m e everyone around them. They lament not being born during another era but they would have perished from weakness during those eras, even in the easiest role.

Unforgiven is good but picrel did the same but better.
It's a tragicomedy. Hill and Fonda give the best performances of their lives. Music by Ennio Macaroni.
Pls watch my movie so we can talk about it.

I kept waiting for the batman to show up the first time I recognized Jake. It played in mexico all the time and I never knew it was italian. I could tell there was something odd about their speech but I couldnt quite put a finger on what. I was amazed when by each and every scene. The bird fable is a classic. Martin sheen told a version on conan 2 decades ago.

Not really. A few nuclear bombs could easily clear off like 99% of the list. And he's killed JUST ABOUT everything, not "literally" everything. So it's not implausible.
>>
>>219011387
see >>218937780
are you implying that in universe he has set off nuclear bombs in multiple continents? I don't buy it, unfortunately.

In the sequel he uses the proceeds of his successful dry goods business to fund his murder of previously unknown to him walking and crawling fauna of the Bay area.

There weren't many of them, Billy the Kid and Hickock were the really only ones and they became myths.

He didn't shoot him because he wasn't a killer. Dude literally pisses himself in the movie when he sees violence firsthand.

Freedom. He'd have snuck out and left
>>
>>219013031
at that point in the story he would have gained his and English Bob's escape.
>>
>>219013031
>What would have he gained if he killed Little Bill?
The key to the cell, the ability to sneak out the prison, get his pistols back and either shoot up the town or get away
>>
>>218969989
you got a foreskin?
>>
>>219013431
He was a writer not a criminal. The townsfolk would have at him or put a bounty on his head. Even english Bob was in his right to carry a gun. Not very pro-2nd amendment to give up your guns when entering a town.

Apart from getting used to the snowy winters (which we don't get here) that sounds really nice. Nothing but nature as far as the eye can see.
>>
>>218973307
Half of Wyoming is flat and empty and there's nothing there was far as the eye can see. The other half is some of the most beautiful mountains and nature on the entire planet
Remember Yellowstone is partly in Wyoming
If I was rich I'd go to Wyoming and own a ranch
>>

Are we talking about the holohoax?
>>
>>218925043
I always felt this movie ended too soon. I would have liked another half hour of clint going apeshit
>>
>>219015869
Where else could it have gone? He killed everyone. Had his moment with Little Bill and avenged Ned
Might have been nice to have some wrap up with him and his kids after getting the money, but I liked the way it ended with the whole "supposedly he made it rich in dry goods" thing.
>>
>>219015982
The movie spends so long building up how mean and evil munny was then blows it's load in like 5 minutes. Come on man. That's just a little sip and I'm thirsty.
