This movie absolutely shouldn't work, but the aesthetics are so extravagant and unique, the editing so schizophrenic, and the performances so committed it's absolute kino. I loved it.

wait I need to watch this because the first scene of the book is a rape joke and I'm not sure if it's in the film. Like the first scene of the book has the guys saying if they find any women from the other family they will push them against the wall, brandish their naked weapons and

For me it was Olivia Hussey as Juliet. Saw that version of Romeo and Juliet in freshman year of high school and went home Googling her and fapping furiously to her.
>When her nude scene happened.
>Some gasp and a girl shouts "OMG! BOOBS"
>Slacker who wasn't paying attention goes "WAIT! WHERE? REWIND THAT!"
>Teacher goes "SEE? That's what happens when you don't pay attention! No I will not rewind that, in life you can't rewind to do things differently."

It's set in the fictional "Verona Beach" which is a play on the setting of the play (Verona, Italy), and Venice Beach, which it's clearly supposed to resemble. It was filmed in Mexico and Alameda.

/po/ has poisoned your mind. None of that is true. He isnt androgynous at all. He's a guy in a dress because guys in dresses are funny.
At the very very best you could say he was doing drag.
>>
All the main protagonists did was scream real loud. John Leguizamo was the best and most convincing role. He was measured properly in his character. Nothing over the top. An excellent Tybalt. The one coming in close was probably the guy who played mercucio.

>but it gets a pass because reasons
When it's deemed 'art', it's OK. I'm not taking a side in the fight, but this is how the fashion industry has gotten away with sexualizing 12 year olds. Meanwhile, in the US, a man was convicted of cp for having manga shipped to his home in Ohio from Japan. Nothing makes sense.

Anyway, the deal with the Hussey is that she was adamant that it wasn't a problem until she needed money. That's probably part of why the case was dismissed.

Just don't have it wind up in an evidence locker after a shooting.
