Sad, honestly, lot of good shows went to shit.

Easily season 5! There was no reason for the group to travel to Pittsburg. And it's not just the setting, it's the narrative structure. The subtle introduction of more fantastical elements instead of a mysterious science-based origin for the virus was both poorly conceived and executed. There were a few decent self-contained episodes in season 6--but the decline clearly started in season 5.

I went in excited back in the day because I was obsessed with the comic in the 00s, but I didn't love the first season, because it felt even more cartoonish than the comic, if that makes any sense. How many "racist, drug/alcohol-abusing, woman-hitting redneck" stereotypes do we need? Plus, I just found something cringe about there being a guy named "T-Dog" running around. Seeing Dale say the name "T-Dog" in a moment that's supposed to be serious just made me laugh.

Lori is also somehow even more insufferable in the show than she was in the comic, and she was a cunty nightmare in that. In the comic, her and Shane fucking is a one-time thing that she instantly regrets, but in the show she's been like "Rick who?" the whole time.

Then season 2 turned into a boring soap opera on a farm where you want to murder Andrea and Lori by the end of it, and season 3 somehow found a way to make the Governor boring. Then, the season 3 finale faked out like they were going to do the prison attack but then didn't just so they could drag out the prison story for another half-season was the point when I bailed.

I ditched it really fucking early, all things considered.

About a season after Negan appeared. But Negan’s appearance was peak walking dead for me. I couldn’t wait a week to see what happens so I started reading the comics to get ahead. Then the show got very boring and repetitive and gay and black so I lost interest. Still watched every now and then. Like I’ve seen the whisperer arec episodes, but only because I was already like 8 seasons deep and didn’t want it all to be for nothing. But after that I truly could not tolerate it so I stopped. I know there’s one or two more arcs after the whisperers and I just don’t care enough to watch.

Still. Those 2 episodes - the end of I think season 5 and first episode of season 6 - were seriously something else. Extremely compelling.

And then some time later I'd have nothing else to watch, and I'd maybe forget how shit it was, so I'd start watching again for a while, and then quit again some time later. I watched the main show up to season 8 plus all the spin-offs in exactly this way.

I think of walking dead as a rollercoaster. It went to shit and then came back up multiple times for me. I didn't care for season 2 much, but then the governor, but then the prison, but then the governor again, but then the governor died, but the cannibals were kinda cool i guess, then it sucked, but then negan showed up and made everything better. I would personally love to see a proper adaptation of the World War Z book, that shows the government and military regrouping and retaking the continent.

I liked how they had designations for every scenario, like LMOEs (Last Man on Earth), Day of the Dead-like manned governent/military facilities, and even how Fiddler's Green-styled walled cities actually served a strategic advantage to the government, because every zombie trying to beat its way into one of those settlements was one less zombie trying to follow them past the Rockies. It also covers the military being sent in to neutralize the Governor/Negan scenarios of warlords that had cropped up, and weren't so keen on relinquishing their power.

It would have been a way better story line to explore the CDC and the cross globe efforts to fight the outbreak and its break down. i actually always enjoyed the soap drama between bullshit characters, regardless of how dumb whatever was going on. There were some good performances full of pathos and good lines throughout the entire show's run. The show as a whole is a mess, and shouldn't really be considered an "entire" show, the first 5-6 seasons, especially anything pre-rick have so little to do with the after rick stuff. For me, the absolute jumped the shark moment was the garbage dump people where they were all weird mad max people that chose to live in a fucking garbage dump but suddenly forgot how to speak normal english? Also, shocked none of you even mentioned the fucking tiger as when the show jumped the shark. That said, I loved ezekiel and the Kingdom folks were based and goofy and brought joy to the show, so I don't hate them. The showdown with Negan's crew where Eugene magically made every single gun explode in their hands was also retarded.

The thing with this show is that it was diamonds mixed with shit from the very start. They just changed the type of shit and the shit-to-diamonds ratio as time had gone on.
It's kind of fascinating really. It doesn't really jump the shark, it does Tony Hawk shit with the shark for 13 seasons (or whatever the final number is), it's just a little less obvious early on.

This is when I truly signed off. Glad I did because later I saw that faulty ammunition scene getting posted and laughed my ass off knowing they were truly off the rails.

This was the most inconsistent TV show in all of history, you had 10/10 "kino/cinema" moments back to back with legitimate "hi mark" 1/10 moments. You'd think the writers and directors of the 10/10 moments would weigh in and tell the people fucking up the show with $0.50 north korean made deer CGI to not fuck up the show for the couple of kino makers left, but alas, the crap won out and the show eventually died.

For the entire runtime of the show I was flip flopping between wanting to drop it and "giving it just one more chance" to thinking "Damn... that was well pulled off" just a single episode later.

Even other beloved shows like LOST had a quality range between 9 and 5, the best were a 9 and the worst were 5. I know no other show that legitimately has some of the best TV and some of the worst TV ever made in the same show, even the same fucking season over multiple seasons.
