>Centuries after his first death on a Scottish battlefield, immortal warrior Connor MacLeod (Henry Cavill) lives quietly in the modern world, haunted by the loss of his wife Heather (Karen Gillan) and the endless cycle of violence among his kind. When his nemesis, the ruthless immortal Kurgan (Dave Bautista), resurfaces, backed by the Watchers, a secret organization whose leader James Horton (Jeremy Irons) is bent on unlocking the secret of eternal life, Connor is forced back into the Game — an ancient battle where "there can be only one.">Guided by his mentor Ramírez (Russell Crowe) and aided by fellow immortal Sunda Kastagir (Djimon Hounsou) and a mortal ally, archaeologist Kate Bennett (Marisa Abela), Connor must confront his past and rediscover his purpose. As immortals clash across time and continents, the fight for the mysterious "Prize" becomes a battle for humanity’s soul.https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1235529/
this has FLOP written all over it
>>218999099I really hope the ending doesn't have any Zeist teases
>Kurgan (Dave Bautista)why'd they cast this scrawny fag when Clancy Brown still exists?
>>218999184>ending of the movie>Connor defeats the Kurgan>gets the prize>suddenly remembers he and the other guys were actually aliens all this time>final shot is General Katana played by Keanu Reeves
>>218999301He's an old man
I hope there's gay tension between these two hunks
>>218999099Who's doing the soundtrack? That's all that matters. Queen is the standard. Good luck Henry!
>>218999640So? He's still gigantic with an awesome voice. He looks a lot younger than he is and all the action going to be CGI bullshit anyways.
>>218999099>let's just reboot everything over and over and over again forever
>>218999929Chad Stahelski said awhile ago that they're reusing Queen but the real issue for me is Michael Kamen
>>219000695Highlander deserved a reboot with a long-term vision from the get-go.
>>219001878no.we deserve new IP that surpases Highlander.no one can come up with a better immortal story/setting ffs?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAX2RuZm-Fk
>>218999099gay sex with henry cavill
>>219002071I agree that the immortality trope has gone underused (or abused - looking at you, Frieren) but Highlander combined it with the Battle Royale concept which is what really deserves to be explored.
>>219002138hell, we haven't even had a story where heaven is real with a revolving door.I'd like to see that version of immortality (you can even have your battle royale concept, except now with some more metaphysics)...
>>218999099shame Karen's role is small. With so much diversity already she should've got Abela's role
>>218999301Would have been fun if Clancy got to be Remirez this time.
If they're gonna use lore from the series I'm fine with it, but if no Methos, no watch.I hope that if they use stuff from Highlander 2, it's from the Director's Cut (no alien bullshit in it). I say that because "As immortals clash across time and continents" made me think of H2DC and the spell to keep immortals from winning The Prize by sending them in different times.
>>218999099Established lore status?
>>219002552I never understood the magical elements. Like in 1 when Remirez teaches Duncan how to feel the heart of the stag and thus run faster and have more stamina. Then in 3 you got a sorcerer with illusion magic that the villain gets after learning it from the Quickening.
>>219002250A revolving door? So you get reincarnated to come back for revenge?
>>218999099>backed by the Watchers, a secret organization whose leader James Horton (Jeremy Irons) is bent on unlocking the secret ofAh, so this is the extra bullshit they had to add to give us some retardedly long runtime
>>219002900>>218999099Where the Watchers a show invention or were they part of Gregory Widen's original concept that he created in his university days?
>>219002929>Where the Watchers a show invention or were they part of Gregory Widen's original concept They're from the show.>that he created in his university daysHe created Highlander when he was working as a firefighter.
>>219002711>reincarnated Resurrected.NG+The real question is, why the hell would you want to come back to this shithole that killed you? That's the plot: revenge can be good (if resurrection exists). Allows for the battle royale plot to play out in an interesting way (saints vs demons?).
>>219002711>>219003810Altered Carbon kinda touches on these themes of immortality via technological reincarnation & resurrection but handwaves out the metaphysics.I think the Heaven element adds a touch of morality and safety from anthropocentric logic/exploitation of immortality.
>Ramírez (Russell Crowe) kek no way
>>219003861Another way to look at it is"What if a Highlander died, went to Heaven, and came back?"I just though the finality of immortality means that they were never truly immortal if they could die; they need a place to temporarily go if their bodies get destroyed.
>>219003906>>Ramírez (Russell Crowe)amerifat detected. did you watch the 1st Highlander? in that movie, Ramirez was played by Sean Connery. Spaniard and not a mexican.
>>219003906Was Rami Malek not available? He can play a katana wielding Egyptian Spaniard with a Scottish accent.
>>219001878No, it fucking doesn't. The original Highlander is perfect classic 80s kino. It doesn't need a lame ass Hollywood reboot. It had a beginning, a middle and a fucking end. JUST LEAVE THINGS ALONE
>>218999640So is Bautista. Theres a million better choices
>>218999099I assume Russell Crowe has been on a diet for this then? He looked pretty big the last time I saw a photo of him.
>>218999171Was it the fact that it was a Highlander film/game/tv show made after the first film that gave it away?"
>>219003980he was egyptian though clearly black
>>218999171The OG movie is quite good with an incredible lore but it’s heavily dated in some areas. The entire time I was watching it all I could think about was how a remake done right could elevate the material to something truly great. And the John Wick director gives me hope it’ll be great.
>>219003983If they got someone like him then they would want Remirez to be an actual character instead of a brief mentor who only exists to give Duncan pathos.
>>218999171It'll be OUR flop!
>>219002340Clancy is too clearly American for this. I think it is great that the Scottish-Spanish-Egyptian role will be played by Russel Crowe who is famously Australian (while being a kiwi) and who is not good at accents (see Winter's Tale, Nuremberg)
>>219002711rebirth would be even funnier. there are 144 immortal souls that keep getting reborn unless they die a certain way and they regain some memory at a certain age and have to get that body into fighting shape and find the others to continue the battle.
>>218999099I liked the first movie. Anything else worth watching?
>>219006222The other Films are utter crap. The TV show is ok I guess.
>>219006245Thanks. The show is free right now I think might give it a try.
>>219006245>>219006222dare I suggest the Spoony reviews to get an idea of how bad it is? I think you need to have seen at least Highlander 2 to understand how baffling the whole thing is.
>>219006222>Highlander 2Batshit coke-fueled early 90s kino. I've only seen the Renegade Cut but it's interesting and does some wild stuff with the lore.>Highlander 3Boring and forgettable. Basically a remake of the first movie with a different villain.>Highlander 4Didn't watch because I didn't watch the show.>this remake littered with capeshit actorsShan't be watching.
>>219006900>>Highlander 4>Didn't watch because I didn't watch the show. You forgot about the the sequel to this, "Highlander: Source" straight to scifi channel, filmed in Lithuania or Latvia or something, absolute dogshit.
>>219001878>Highlander deserved a reboot with a long-term vision from the get-go.not one made now and not done like that
>>219005320JW sucked
>>219003906Is MoS again. This time it's mentor-pupil instead father-son
>>218999099I liked the cast and therefore I am interested. People like to pretend the original film was some high art, when really it was just some good old cheesy goodness.
>>219003906It’s the thinking man’s choice. The original Ramirez was an Egyptian masquerading as a Spanish man who looked and sounded like neither. This isn’t a criticism, since it fit the tone of the movie perfectly while Connery’s skill as an actor didn’t make it a farce. If Crowe brings his A game it can easily work with a similar set up.If the movie was 100% serious then someone like Banderas would be 10/10 casting, but it isn’t so he isn’t.Bautista is honestly the biggest concern of the cast. Kastigir was in the original but had his role cut down, so he’s not as issue if they don’t overly fluff the character, and the Watchers might be from the tv series but they are at least part of the franchise and Irons is easily capable of handling a villain role of any tone in his sleep.Bautista, on the other hand, is just a fairly big guy. He can manage a comedic role, or be a shouty/edgy sidekick villain, but nothing he’s ever done indicates he can pull off what Clancy Brown did in the original. Managing The Kurgan’s blend of schizophrenic apathy, sadism, spite and passion without turning into a joke requires a great actor to achieve.
