There was no incest undertones in the series (or the book) with Paul. You are thinking of the sequel (book & series), Children of Dune.

Explicitly Paul walks in on her naked during a literal hormonal outrage, where she purposefully puts herself in danger for the sexual thrill of it fighting against an AI machine without limiters.
Mirroring the commonplace form of rebellion that young women in their teens will usually take with putting themselves in increasing more dangerous situations until sex happens.
There is hesitation between both, before Paul becomes hyper aware that he needs to find a partner for her and very soon.
You can read that as any way you want it, but it has subtones of incest to the entire meeting and is 100% played for eroticism.

>"I presume you know how dangerous that was," Paul said. He took his time reading the reactions on her face and body: the flush of her exertions coloring her skin, the wet fullness of her lips. There was a disquieting femaleness about her that he had never considered in his sister. He found it odd that he could look at a person who was this close to him and no longer recognize her in the identity framework which had seemed so fixed and familiar.
>Stilgar continued to stare at Alia. "Sire, are you blind?" Paul turned back to his sister, a feeling of unease beginning to fill him. Of all his aides, only Stilgar dared speak to him in that tone, but even Stilgar measured the occasion by its need. "This one must have a mate!" Stilgar blurted. "There'll be trouble if she's not wed, and that soon." Alia whirled away, her face suddenly hot. How did he touch me? she wondered.
>Paul weighed Stilgar's meaning, reviewed what they had seen here and his own undeniable male reaction to his own sister. Yes -- there'd been a ruttish air about Alia, something wildly wanton. What had made her enter the practice floor in the nude?

It's all right there. You would know, if you had actually read the book.

>>
>>219006851
She's Alia, the sister of Paul, Duke Leto Atreides and Lady Jessica's daughter, concieved early on during the first book; I don't recall if it was before they left Caladan, or during their short time on Arrakis. Paul is aware Jessica was pregnant when they were escaping the Harkonnens and Sardukar.
When Jessica took the Water of Life to become the Fremen Sayadina, Alia became sapient while in the womb; something called a pre-born; this is usually a bad thing as the generic knowledge and awareness is powerful and can overcome an individual and is a bad thing to occur.

>>219007152
In the books, and every other adaption except DUNC2; Muad'dib's Fremen rebellion against the Harkonnens takes a couple years; Alia is born, and because of the water of life exposure she ages and an accelerated rate, and she gets captured by the Harkonnen and Imperial forces during the war before the final battle to take Arrakeen; she confronts the Emperor and the Baron, whom she calls grandfather (as Jessica was secretly the Baron's daughter); she is the one who kills the Baron during the battle, which the Fremen revere her as St. Alia of the Blade for doing so.

I don't know what role Alia plays in Dune Messiah considering DUNC2 skips all that and Alia isn't born yet. But also in DUNC2 Chani is completely different too; in the books Paul and Chani have a baby boy whom the Harkonnen kill in their crackdown on the Fremen rebellion.

Alia's genetic memory from being a preborn means her ancestors all have parts in her psyche, which start to cause problems for her as she grows into adulthood.

>>
>>219006851
>>219006525
aside from Paul, Alia is the best character in the books. She's easily best girl and even though Denis is going to rape her character arc (he already has, she was supposed to be the one to kill the Baron, which is the setup for their dynamic in Messiah because he's a schizo voice in her head), I'm still excited to see another portrayal of her even though Anya is kind of too old to portray her now. At the very least we'll get some cool shots

>>219007424
>Alia is born, and because of the water of life exposure she ages and an accelerated rate
No she ages at the exact same normal rate. What you're misremembering or misunderstood is that she was a pre-born
>>
>>219008428
The narration in Lynch Dune mentions accelerated aging; I don't recall what is in the books about it although the books do have a longer span of time.
>>
Keep in mind she later on gets possessed by the Baron so you're lusting after a fat gay dude who's inside the body of a woman
>>
>>219008451
I'm going off the books which I'm pretty certain dont make any mention of that. Frank was kind of unclear about timeframes but I would put Alia at about 3-4 when she killed the baron. And she was 3-4 because that's how many years had passed since she was born lol.
I haven't seen Lynch's Dune but yeah I guess that's how it works in that movie. I wouldn't use it as proof that's what's happening in the books just because it's Lynch. Denis is raping the story and you wouldn't argue that his version is more correct either.

She gets slightly chubby as a young teenage girl, which in the 60's -when the book was written- was indication of a serious mental problem (posession by pedophile grandpa)

>>219008451
She's a 3 year old toddler who talks and moves in the manner of a skilled mature person, because her mind was exposed to adult knowledge in the womb.

Also I believe she's actually called St Alia of the Knife because during the final battle against the Harkonnens and Sardaukar she was too physically undeveloped to do anything of value in combat. So instead of directly fighting she followed behind the Fremen warriors and slit the throats of any wounded Harkonnens or Sardaukar that been left behind.
The image of a 3 year old girl executing hundreds of dying men with a knife was enough for the Fremen to call her a saint.

Villeneuve has fucked DUNC. There's no real point even having Alia in the film anymore, might as well just make Chani regent and blah blah blah because it's fanfiction now.
>>
>>219004497
note that writers end up doing stuff like this because they're not confident that the plot and characters they've come up with can hold the reader's attention by themselves. it's very much:

>just wear a refridgerator lol

turns out that if you keep drinking water, the body already does that really efficiently. who knew.
>>
>>219010175
Are you fucking retarded?
Stilsuits made perfect sense for cooling for the hypothetical standpoint given.
>Body produces sweat, sweat+small amount off heat creates humidity
>stillsuit porous nature draws humidity
>when humidity is pulled away from an object it reduces heat
evaporative cooling.

The problem is calling a stillsuit cooling technology. When it's more appropriately referring to thermoregulating technology.
As you generate heat, the stillsuit further cools you. If you don't generate enough heat, the stillsuit does not cool you.
It's thermoregulating.
now fuck off retard, this is not incredibly difficult to vision and 40k dyson vaccuum decades into the Rick and Mortyverse future where dune takes place i'm sure they could make some gay boy material that moisture wicks better than our current clothing.
>>
>>219010383
humidity inside clothes is the result of water not being able to evaporate normally, right? it's inherently when air has more water vapour in it.
human beings actually can't sweat as efficiently in high-humidity conditions, its why humidity makes it feel like its hotter than the actual temperature.
so basically, the humidity inside the stillsuit impedes the body's regular cooling mechanism in proportion to how much it builds up. you'd need to remove the moisture from the skin as effectively as just letting it evapourate, but the suits are skintight so your sweat ought to just rub off onto the inside of the suit and block the porousness of the material fucking up any moisture circulation.

it's just sci-fi-sounding space opera gobble-de-gook, same as "we don't use lazers because shields would blow everyone up" and "there was an AI war so we don't use computers".
>>
as i recall, most people find her unnerving to look at
>>
>>219010475
The larger issue is the recycling of water if you want to point out a flaw.
in dune they do the whole
>breathe in through mouth out through nose.
when in real life that is horrible, the nose is designed to contain moisture, while the mouth is the largest moisture loss.
So you would want your nose open and the mouth closed and sealed to breathe out with some sort of filtering device.
This would also serve to allow the mouth spout for which you can drink water.
Drinking water regular, releases some ease off catch pockets in suit, prevents the issue you're bringing up so that natural osmosis (less water on one side vs another side, forced pressure) happens.
That's basically the only thing I can think of that he just got wrong, but the actual suit mechanics in general are pretty accurate.
Even to the stupid heel pump mechanic.

As this correlates largely with body suits we have now, just with the simple lacking once again of this hypothetical super moisture wicking technology and osmosis transference material.
In real life osmosis can take hours, that's why you hook your osmosis/reverse osmosis systems up to the catch container. So you can draw water when you need it and let it collect when you aren't using it.
For such a bastardly hot planet, this shit would need to be cooling you within minutes or the sealed suit would bake you like an egg.

I can't figure it for the life of me what to even suggest would be good material for that.

I didn't watch the dune movies though. they looked bad and with bad casting and I was right because they changed things for the worse like making chani an ugly mutt who opposes paul and acts like a cunt and removing the scene of baby alia insulting baron harkonnen then slitting his neck after he fell over.

>In the original movie
You have to be more specific. Lynch's Dune is the most faithful to book 1 alia. It's too early to say how Shilleneuve will depict her in part 3, but from the look of picrel he's leaning into her descent into madness just like in Messiah.
>>
>>219006851
Denis removed her from the movie because he's a coward.

She's meant to be able to think, talk and move like an adult as a baby because her mother took a lot of spice while pregnant, or something along those lines.
This is also an important plot point because it serves as precedent for how Paul defeats the bad guy in dune messiah.

Paul gets cornered somehow by an alliance of badguys who steal his and chani's babies, but because his babies also had spice in the womb like alia, he is able to see through their eyes and knows where to throw the knife to kill the badguy and save his kids
Without Alia as a precedent that scene won't make as much sense or be as cool , and that scene plus the ending are basically the only good parts in the whole book.

>body drips and glistens with sweat over her muscles when she practices fighting

Just my personal take so feel free to disregard, but dunc part 1 and 2 are good cinematic experiences imo. If you separate them from the novels, i.e. watch them for their own merit in their own universe you will get much more out of them.

I have read Book 1 and Messiah btw. I agree that Dunc deviates from the main plot and characters, but so does pretty much every adaptation of the books. It's impossible to fit all of it into a 2-3 hour runtime. The miniseries is the one to have come the closest.
>>
>>219011015
>good cinematic experiences
I spent like half of part 2 in abject disgust, pretty much any time Zendaya was on screen pretending to be some abortive version of Chani (whose name they couldn't even pronounce properly). The rest of it just baffled me with the other retarded decisions made. The only faithful part of the adaptation was how much of a dog's breakfast the end was.
>>
>>219011109
>The only faithful part
Again, you're still pitting it against the novels. I agree that it doesn't hold a candle to the books, on that we are in agreement.

That's a shit infographic. You don't need God Emperor to close out Children, Children is the end of Maud'dib's story (and Paul's, and Alias, and arguably Jessica's. The idea of keeping it to Dune and Dune Messiah as one containment and not having Children of Dune as the epilogue for them is a stupid idea.

Also using God Emperor as a closer is the absolute worst; God Emperor is so on it's own regarding narrative, there is little narrative point to it on it's own unless you move forward, as it's a bridge story linking the two different eras.

>>219012880
Heretics and Chapterhouse are fine with maybe the exception that they end abruptly and vague. But so does God Emperor if you use that as an end point. Closing at Children of Dune is the best option as that wraps up the stories of Paul Muad'dib Atriedes the Kwisatch Haderach and leaves the future in the hands of Leto II and the Golden Path.
