While I find Bigelow's latter films to be overrated schlock, this is an underrated gem.

While the writing can be a but "eh?" at times, especially when it come's to Lenny pleading with Faith or some of the shit surrounding Jericho One, I'm willing to overlook them for not only the atmosphere the film evokes, but also the banger soundtrack by Graeme Revell.

It's been my go-to new year's eve movie since 2009.

Is this the movie where you can see Christopher Lambert's balls?

No Country For Old Men
I know, I know. Only the dumbest people alive like this shitty movie. But I just love retarded shit like the magical tracking device. No device like that existed back then. I'll defend it in other threads. It's called "transponder". Even though it's not a transponder and transponders don't work like that. And the horrific acting and story. Guilty pleasure is all.
>>
>>219010845

Its a perfect little self contained fantasy story. Millie is believable. Dragon is cool. Didn't feel woke or gay or black. Just knights and dragons and a princess. 10/10. Obviously I wish it had nudity but thats unrealistic to expect

for me it was this. Yes, one of the biggest bombs of all time, but honestly I don't mind it. If anything the idea that the AI plane is not the villain and the hero teams up with it is transgressive given the current trendy view on AI.
This movie probably pre-defined both my teenage taste in music (outgrown) and interest in military vehicles (still got it).

i wouldn't say i was disappointed but definitely not the kind of flick i was expecting to get

Dune (1984)

It seems almost universally hated but it’s my favorite movie of all time next to Holy Grail, Conan the Barbarian and the Thing. It’s just something about Dune that screams kino to me. It’s possibly the greatest spiritual take on the father-son relationship I’ve ever seen.

People hold fun western movies to strangely high standards. Modern action movies can be silly and ridiculous and get standing ovations but westerns have this weird sense of traditionalism that forces them to be serious. Same reason the Lone Ranger tanked. It was just as good as any other silly summer action movie, but got raped in the reviews. It’s still a guilty pleasure of mine, along with WWW.

All that dumbass whispering was hilarious, and you can only like it in one of those "so bad it's good" kind of ways.

I had high hopes for the Cloverfield Paradox. It came on right after the Super Bowl in like 2017(I think) so everyone watched it immediately. Holy crap it was boring. Weird generic scifi slop with the monster in the last 3 seconds of the film. Added absolutely nothing to the series except for a lame origin story nobody needed.
>>

>>
>>219015464
ST season 1 was fantastic. Great mood, kids were fun, good horror and mystery. But the show got picked up by cringe online fans that demanded more superpower slop. It quickly devolved into an xman knock off with generic school drama. Also despite having a decade to write a decent story they winged it at the last second. Hell I WISH they copied another movie, at least then it would have decent structure.

The only MCU movies I liked were the Spider-Mans
>didn't have much of the MCU shoved into it since Spider-Man is too young to be an avenger and has self contained stories
>had just enough MCU to give spidey cool extra abilities that they hadn't had a chance to put into the previous spider-man movies before
>hot new aunt
>personally think Tom Holland's portrayal is the best depiction of a live action spider-man imo
>second and third movies had interesting set pieces and fun fights
>third movie was a love letter to all the previous spider-man movies which was cool and we got to see willem dafoe as the goblin again
Nothing else in the MCU can even compare desu

Last one I can think of, that was decent, was Magnificent Seven. Now it’s mostly western shows that are pure “muh misery” porn. I get that the old west sucked, but you don’t HAVE to dedicate 90% of your show’s runtime to demonstrating the hardships.

I didn't watch ASM or a lot of the shittier MCU stuff. I only watched ironman 1-2, captain america 1-2, guardians 1, thor, thor ragnarok, and the avengers stuff. Spidey3 was fine. It had enough Raimi wanking that the ASM fags barely stood out. Doc Ock and Gobbo stole the show.

When Jacques De Gris recollects his part of the story.
You know it was supposed to be ambiguous and even historians agree that they are not sure on what happened. Scott's version just confirms the rape, as if she couldn't have lied to get back at those two and get her land back.

I think the premise was workable, but it desperately needed a script re-write and a director that didn't suck. The problem was that too many high-ranking Scientologists including Travolta wanted to steer it because of how much of their money they were putting into it, and there was nobody who was actually at the helm who could stand up to them and force them to just shut up and not fuck it up.

This movie was basically destroyed by scientologist izzat wars behind the scenes.

This movie was actually really good but it had enemies or stepped on toes or something because the Hollywood machine turned against it HARD just when it needed a little help and promotion, people were shitting on it for the dumbest, gayest fucking reasons. Johnny Depp deserved an Oscar for Tonto. I think maybe part of the problem was that some people thought he was having too much success and they wanted to cut him down to size. I'm not sure.

I think Lone Ranger would've done just fine it they removed that weird intro/outro scenes that just had a weird tone, like you were supposed to hate the actual movie. It's like they were trying to guilt trip you in a surreal way before the actual movie starts.
>>
>>219018747
Yeah, I agree and it was a fucking miracle that they made an actually good movie out of it because NOBODY would have expected a Lone Ranger movie made in 2013 to not be fucking torture to sit through.

It should have been Wild Wild West-tier and instead it was the first good Western since Tombstone. Lightning from a clear blue sky.
>>
>>219012084

The music is amazing.
The performances are amazing.
Almost all the lines are quotable.
The props/sets are amazing.

It was savaged in the reviews (of the time) because the overt goal of the movie was to be the next Star Wars, with a lot of merch related to it. To that end reviewers hated what was done to the source material and for the normie viewer it was too weird. Lynch had his bitchfit about not having final cut but everything that I've learned about his cut makes it seem like it wouldn't do shit to address issues reviewers/audience had with it. He just didn't like that he didn't have full control over it. I think the theatrical cut flows smoothly and the "additions" in his cut would just make the whole thing drag on for too long.

The audio version of Dune is 22 hours long, it's a 22-hour long story. Lynch wanted to make a film version that was 3 hours long, and Dino De Laurentis decided arbitrarily that it had to be 2 hours.

You're tripping fucking balls if you think ANY film ever made can have almost a full hour cut from it and still make sense and not have severe pacing issues throughout.

I don't know whether Lynch's cut would have done anything to address the concerns of idiotic reviewers and even stupider audiences, but I think it's literally a crying shame that no existing cut exists for comparison so we can actually see, with hindsight, whether Lynch's version would have been better or worse.

At the time, maybe it wouldn't have helped the movie, but it might have been received a lot differently by people nowadays who are a little bit smarter and have a better understanding of the lore and what the movie is actually TRYING to accomplish.

I think it's insane that De Laurentis decided to cut out an entire hour's worth of runtime when he literally never even read the fucking book and could barely speak English and people think there's no way that he might have fucked it up because how could David Lynch possibly know what he was doing . . .

All I know is when you read the book first and love it and then you find out there was a movie and you decide you want to see it because you loved the book so much, and then you watch the movie, it's extremely apparent that it's a collection of scenes that once belonged to a much larger epic space opera before a fucking ignorant coke addict who doesn't speak English decided to play editor and cut out everything he didn't think was important in a story that he never read and wouldn't have appreciated even if he did.

>filmed footage is NEVER cut down during editing into the final cut

The theatrical movie flows well. The added scenes (that I've seen) just drag on and add nothing to the MOVIE. You're acting like editing is never done on any movie and every second of footage is sacred.
The flow is the most important thing. It doesn't matter if Lynch recorded an hour more if it was dragging on and adding nothing of substance.

The boat attack scene has one of the worst editing mistakes I have ever seen, which is inexcusable for a $200m movie.

Stealth dinosaurs everywhere, largest land animal ever is somehow hiding in 5 foot tall grass, t-rex teleporting, dog shit storylines, experienced team somehow loses all but 2 members, random boat family suffers one sprained ankle.

The Jurassic Park movies have just been a straight decline since the first.

The only good part about Blazing Saddles is the theme song. When you go back and watch it the propaganda is obvious. There was another thread on /tv/ that mentioned American Pie. It's a lot like that in that, looking back, it was all so degenerate and on the nose that it's hard to believe people actually liked it.

Blazing Saddles is 93 minutes of Boomer Civil Rights 'white man stupid, minority good' feel good slop that Israel Zangwill would be proud of. And that's a generous assessment. Just check the early life of everyone involved.

Shawshank builds up to a good ending, and that's what people remember, but most of the movie is mediocre.

it did? don't remember even that, although do remember the scene from Prometheus

It feels like a really good Jim Cameron movie, surprised so many people hate it or consider it bad.
>>
>>219025348
Blaire witch and Cloverfield are really the first movies to be successful with the found footage gimmick. Unfortunately it encouraged every dollar store studio to copy it and pump out 1,000 horrendous knock offs.

>Iron Man 1
>Iron Man fights an Iron Man
This is the most disappointing one, what an absolute blunder on a climax

so fun. I want more but it's probably dead by now

Yeah it's kino makes modern Guy Ritchie output look extremely soulless by comparison
>>
>>219025489
Pretty sure a lot of people like that movie

fat dragon was great

I watched Zardoz with friends, expecting it to be terrible, cringekino. It's legitimately good though. I was surprised how much I enjoyed it.

They made the actors' eyes a little bigger. They were trying to recreate the digital Warcraft aesthetic on living people, which is a weird idea.
>>
>>219025640
NTA, but that's horrifying
>>
>>219025348
but isn't it kinda the whole point? would it not lose like half the appeal had they shot it normally?

Extremely Precocious, Shockingly Alpha and Based

I hated how everyone were backstabbing everyone, that is not what the story was supposed to be. I know the first game didn't have much in the way of the story but there were some established canon facts they should've absolutely stuck to like the burning of Stormwind. I guess they wanted Durotan to be the face of the movie on the orc side so i get involving him more but his death not having any effect on orcs was lame and his wife died for nothing. The pacing was awful, the first 20 minutes don't explain shit and the movie doesn't stop to let you absorb anything. The humans were mostly miscast and the dialogue was weirdly modern at times. The look of the movie was too fake at times, human props and armor looked plastic. The size disparity between orcs and humans was ridiculous, it was unbelievable that there could be any sort of battle between them. That cube lady was confusing and should've just been Aegwynn. Really they should've just adapted The Last Guardian for anything concerning Medivh. Orgrim being a traitor was atrocious. Gul'dan as an invincible villain was annoying. Lothar's bond with his son wasn't terribly compelling. Garona should've been fucked on-screen.

I really appreciate you putting that into words, because I was going to include it in my comment, but decided not to bother.
>>
>>219025386
hard agree, don't see any flaws, given what they were trying to do

Why would it?
>>
>>219020531
It was reasonably well recieved which is fair

>The size disparity between orcs and humans was ridiculous
oh, now I remember, yeah. in the games, both humans and orcs look cartoony, so it works, but here they went 50/50 and broke it visually
>>
>>219025574
i think it wasn't a box office success but it performed very well on streaming.
>>
>>219025852
For sure. I can count on one hand how many GOOD found footage movies there are. Last one being Hardcore Henry. But there are hundreds of garbage ones unfortunately

It really brought me back to classic fantasy movies to watch with friends while you drink. Aka, Van Helsing
>>
>>219026111
checked. van helsing now has some sort of cult following, so it's all good, but it was weirdly hated upon release for some reason

I always think of this orc from Return of the King as an example of what Warcraft orcs should have looked like in live-action. I wonder what a Warcraft movie made in 2007 would look like.
>>
>>219025895
iirc, the premise was "what if monster movie, but street level", and found footage emphasis it really good? I mean, you could shoot it normally, but what for.
>>
>>219018460
>mfw that sequel bait with Scotland

What were they thinking?
>>
>>219012574
They copied the Warcraft3 intro sequence shot for shot, but with worse CGI. Embarasing that the game came out 10 years before. Also the choice to make all the Orks CGI except the one singular vagina ork kinda just guts the immersion. it just constantly reminds you that you're watching a couple cosplayers pretending to be video game characters

fun flick with budget margot robbie
nonsense plot but the movie know what it is and plays with it

It shows a black screen and then flashes up THE TRUTH...
Then you see the events of the film, only the girl is 100% correct about everything and completely clever and perfect
>she explains how to do the servants' jobs and suddenly the castle starts running much smoother
etc.

The best way I describe these movies is lunch movies. Imagine
>just finished 5 hours of yard work
>you’ve been sweating and working since 7am and now you’re starving
>go inside, fix a thick sandwich with chips and a cold drink
>turn on TV and flip randomly to one of the above mentioned movies
>no matter where you land in the runtime, you can sit back and enjoy it
>eat for a good 30 minutes enjoying yourself in the AC
That’s how I describe these movies
>>
>>219026251
Watched that when I was like 11 and have no idea if it would hold up. But I enjoyed it.
