Star Fox is unfortunately a series where most of its entries are just rehashing the original instead of actually moving the plot along. The last new Star Fox game was Command in 2006. It is weird like you said, Fox himself is really popular because of Smash, but his series hardly gets any games. I can't really think of many characters like this that get most of their fame through, effectively, cameo appearances, and not their actual series. Because you'd think they'd want to take advantage of that popularity and do something with the actual series but they never do. They seem content to have him be the unofficial mascot of Smash.
