Lost Highway just feels like a test drive for Mulholland Drive, it’s hard to enjoy really without it just making me want to watch Mulholland Drive… Blue Velvet vs. Mulholland Drive is hard. It’s hard to recommend Mulholland Drive to anyone really since it’s so abstract, but I definitely watch Mulholland Drive more and was much more obsessed with it than I ever got with Blue Velvet. But Blue Velvet is like a perfect film that anyone can enjoy.

I’ll probably go Blue Velvet > Mulholland Drive today

Mulholland is watered-down LH.

Lost Highway is probably the only good movie he made

Blue Velvet is the magnus opus of Lynch and the only Great American Film ever made.

I don't think Mulholland Drive is actually the "Lynchiest" Lynch film, but it's the one where his fixation with identity crises, seedy underworlds and amercian pop culture / hollywood kind of all came together in the ideal ratios. It was the film he'd been trying to make since Inland Empire.

Whereas Blue Velvet is just a self-contained film that despite all its weirdness is a fairly straightforward story. It's a guy getting caught up in a kindapping case involving a local criminal syndicate. The villains are just unusually eccentric and it's got a kinky s&m undercurrent but if you get filtered by it you're retarded. Everything is exactly what it appears to be and nothing unnatural or inexplicable happens. People get shot. It's not surrealism.

And I honestly can't say which I like better because they're not really trying to even do the same thing. That's like asking if you like hamburgers or tacos better. They're both food made with ground beef but they each scratch a different itch. Sometimes I want one, sometimes I want the other. It's not a matter of better or worse.

1. Lost Highway - I love the soundtrack and vibe of the movie. The 90's setup is so underrated and the bits in the first act with the video tapes feel like a genuine horror movie.
2. Mulholland Drive - I can appreciate Watts' acting and the aggressive daylight for the first 2/3 of the movie in keeping with the movie's themes, but I just prefer dark atmospheres. Some of the bits with the director too feel juuust a bit too comic-reliefy. Still a great movie though. The turning point into the third act is fantastic.
3. Blue Velvet - I like it. I took a date to it. She did not like it.

I agree with that, a lot of his maximum Lynch stuff is too much even for me as an unapologetic lynchfag

Oh look, FPBP

Blue Velvet bored me, I liked the other two though

Great Lynchian atmosphere and characters, storyline is only ok

Blue velvet > lost highway >Mulholland Dr
Mulholland Dr would be above lost highway if it wasn't so unfinished and janky. It's clearly a failed television pilot reworked into a film.
Blue velvet is a masterpiece and an undeniable Lynch powerhouse of a film. Probably my favorite film of all time.

there is no fucking way that blue velvet is better than mulholland drive you contrarian bastards

these movies aren’t even in the same solar system

Mulholland is probably his most comprehensible film, disregarding Dune because that doesn't really count as a 'Lynch film'.
>>
>>219021465
I would put them into that order, left being highest.

Inland Empire is easily the most “Lynchian” it’s completely insane

Mullholland Drive is a great movie a true classic and one of the greats 8.5/10

Bleu Velvet I made one attempt a couple years ago to watch it but I couldn't make it past half a hour. I might give it a try again one day

The other movie on your list I don't know if I have seen that one

Donnie Darko is a movie that could have been added on your list it was a good movie and also a true classic. I didn't like it as much as Mullholland Drive but I would recoment it to anyone 7.5/10

Mulholland Drive isn't abstract at all, it's a basic movie where the first half is a dream and in the second half the dreamer wakes up.

honestly your descriptions of Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive are completely backwards. A really big group of people would not enjoy blue velvet at all.
>>
>>219031777
so you haven't even seen the straight story? get the fuck outta here

this, but I think LH and MD are very close and both 10/10 films

Last 20 minutes of a 2 and a half hour movie, akchually.

Lynchian reminder that the idea is the thing - the language is cinema, and movies mean whatever you feel they mean

For me, it's Naomi Watts' look of pure hatred as she stares at an empty space in her kitchen
