No, it shuffled a bunch of shit around and changed a bunch of scenes. It's still sticking to the same overall story, but there's a lot of things that hit differently because of the changes they've made.
That said, the comics mostly sucked in the first place, so it's not really a desecration.

to a great degree, yes. the only reason it was fun to read was that it was filled with gore and huge tits and ass and a tiny bit subversive. it became stupid and repetitive to such an insane degree that there was a whole arc about repeating the past.
but had some really hot bitches, the show toned that down way too much
