Been watching lesser known horror kino on Sundance and this one caught my attention. First 2/3rds was a decent cozy witch kino.

I get having a sad ending and it's realistic to make a scared teenage protagonist do dumb stuff, but I wish she'd at least attempted to follow the author's instructions instead of giving up on doing the ritual backwards to undo the summoning.

For me,
Ghoulies 1 > Critters 1
Ghoulies 2 > Critters 2
Critters 3 > Ghoulies 3
Critters 4 > Ghoulies 4
Overall, I like the first two Ghoulies movies the most. Critters is more consistent overall and the first two movies are still pretty neck-and-neck with Ghoulies, but it's #2 to me. Hobgoblins is just terrible all around even for a Rick Sloan movie, and I haven't seen Munchies

>‘What Happens at Night’ First Look: Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence Reunite in Martin Scorsese’s Marriage Horror Story

>Anyone wondering why Leonardo DiCaprio was sporting a mustache at the 2026 Oscars has their answer courtesy of the first look at Martin Scorsese‘s “What Happens at Night,” a haunted marriage drama that is likely to have the Oscar-winning filmmaker back in “Shutter Island” psychological horror mode. DiCaprio headlines the film in a reunion with his “Don’t Look Up” co-star Jennifer Lawrence.

>DiCaprio and Scorsese jointly shared a first-look photo from “What Happens at Night” on social media. The image shows DiCaprio and Lawrence’s married couple walking hand in hand amid a chilling wintery landscape. Production on the film is now underway. The supporting cast includes Mads Mikkelsen, Patricia Clarkson and Jared Harris.

>While DiCaprio has a storied career being directed by Scorsese in movies such as “The Aviator,” “Gangs of New York,” “The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Shutter Island” and more, this new movie will mark the first time Jennifer Lawrence is directed by the “Taxi Driver” and “Goodfellas” icon. During a conversation for Variety‘s “Actors on Actors,” Lawrence asked DiCaprio what she should know about Scorsese as a director.

>“It’s a great thing, and he’s going to give you a lot of film references,” DiCaprio told her. “They usually come in the form of a DVD. And if you don’t have a DVD player, get one… he’ll have screenings sometimes for just one sequence in a movie. If there’s something that he wants you to capture from an old film or the pacing of something, you might have a screening of a whole film just for a specific scene that he wants to see. We might see some Japanese ghost films for reference, just to get the tone of it. You’re going to have an amazing time.”

Not having the glorious 80s in your list.
Or some true classic from the black and white era.

OP here, I just skipped through serbian film to see what it was about. For me it felt like shock for the shock value.
I know that irreversible has a similar reputation. Maybe I didn‘t “get” a serbian film, but irreversible has a very different impact. Maybe because the topic feels less abstract. Maybe it feels more like “art”. Maybe because I am a fan of Noé.
For me it was worth the watch. But make no mistake. It’s a hard watch. But I felt almost offended when you thought about a serbian film.
Maybe that says more about me than about both movies.

>>
>>219041136
It's a horror film disguised as a crime thriller which is how it could break into the mainstream and win Oscars after a solid decade of trashy slashers and shitty sequels that made everyone associate horror films exclusively with exploitation films which Lambs was decidedly not despite still having images of the hanging corpse of a disemboweled police officer and a decomposing body in a bath tub full of dirty water straight out of the TCM graveyard intro and it even has a Leatherface human skin mask scene too except much gorier.

I was actually shocked at the amount of horror scenes/elements it has despite so many horror fans and casual audiences swearing up and down for decades it's purely a thriller and getting mad when you call it horror.

Most of the suspense scenes are clearly focused on scaring you, some of the more subtle horror scenes aren't really suspenseful at all in fact, but they’re more psychological so depending on the person they're either comparable to Kinderman's scenes with the Gemini Killer in Exorcist 3 or just purely drama.

I would genuinely go as far as to say it’s more horror than thriller and I really wish it would get acknowledged more often as a horror film by horror fans similar to The Exorcist and Jaws. It's one of my all time favorites honestly I would totally put it in my top 5 horrors personally.

I've always thought of Se7en as a horror film personally but it's less conventional than both SotL and Cure. Se7en has this bleak atmosphere of constant dread throughout much like the other two, but the antagonist doesn't show up properly until the last 30 minutes and much of the violence is off screened so it relies on the viewer's imagination to do some of the heavy lifting far more and that's what the murder scene investigations are really about because after Sloth there are no more clues left behind leading to the next victim and it stops being a detective thriller entirely after John Doe evades capture and there are still four more deadly sins murders left in the film.

I would say Irreversible absolutely qualifies as a horror movie due to its nihilism. That you find out that the boyfriend ended up killing the wrong guy instead of the actual rapist is insanely grim.
>>
How do I start watching horror movies? I have a negative preconceived idea about them.
>>
>>219046530
Don't forget it even has a scene where a guy in the prison flings his semen at Jodie Foster's character and it gets in her hair. Pretty hardcore for a mainstream early 90s flick.

Comedy horror, it's typical of a lot of the mid 80s to early 90s stuff. Gremlins and the NoES sequels made this style huge.

Apparently it was the first movie directed by David Cronenberg's daughter, but you would never ever be able to tell. It's not like with Cronenberg's son where you're just

Movies about people being killed by psychos who will get away with it and bury you in a shallow grave are some of the worst for me since it happens to people IRL. I mean, if you're killed by Candyman or the It Follows demon at least your friends/family will bury you, have closure, and you'll be remembered in local legends.

You should watch similar movies but with happy endings like Wolf Creek and Speak No Evil(original Danish version).

It's why while I understand "Megan Is Missing" is a badly made movie, it's still fucked on a certain level, because it's based on actual cases, and if you spend any time listening to channels like Disturban, Shrouded Hand, and Lazy Masquerade, you know that not only does worse stuff happen irl, it happens all the time.

>Have a few on VHS that my mother has had since the '80s
>Decide it would be a neat little collection
>Plus there's the cool part about tracking them down, just torrents are fine
>Start doing this
>Only get maybe 8 before my HDD dies
>Quickly get them back
>Some of them prove really difficult, verging on the impossible, to find
>Then my brother tells me that they've all been released by some distributor
>It's not as fun trying to find them now
>I could just buy them, but there's still a little fun in finding them
>Real life gets in the way which is where we find ourselves now
>They should be much easier to find thanks to the releases they got some years ago
>But it turns out not all of them were released and some were released with cuts
>Being for sure somewhere on the spectrum I can't settle for less than the original cuts

Question is; how hard will these be to get nowadays bros? Torrents of them I mean and more specifically the ones that never got a release and are still banned.

Answer: Borderline impossible?

The "Video Nasties" list of movies is fine. They're all readily available for the mainstream and have been forever. Finding the specific versions and cut or uncut of the movies is up to you. You would have better luck with direct downloads rather than torrents that are most likely dead.

In that case surely it shouldn't be borderline impossible then. From what I know it's only the British releases that have cuts and are uncut elsewhere. I don't mind them being foren cuts, but I would need subs which I imagined would be a much more difficult task.
>You would have better luck with direct downloads rather than torrents that are most likely dead
I'll try doing that too. Thanks.

My main concern is that I'll 100% end up on a list searching for some of them. For instance
>Abducted (aka Schoolgirls in Chains)
It's like I'm asking to be v& searching for that or others with dubious names.

All this info is available in text form on fan sites etc. I’m a BritBong and I was in a phase where I HAD to see the uncut versions etc. etc. to see what I was missing and, honestly, it got to a point when I was spending more time searching than watching and I’m in my 40s now, life is way too short.

My advice: start with the streaming sites (h***s://1moviez.to is my current go to) and search there. If it’s on there just watch the cunt then go to IMDb or the cutting room floor or wherever and see if alternate cuts exist. Trust me, you’ll waste too much time finding the “definitive” versions and it’s just soul crushing. I bet the ‘70s in the UK was fun as fuck chasing the nasties but ultimately the nanny state fucked us hard.

Finally watched 'Send Help'. It's a really generic Raimi effort, sadly. It does not try anything interesting, you can see the twist coming from miles away and when it arrives it's probably worse than what you had in mind. I think it's saddled with pajeet CGI which fucks up the scene with the boar A LOT, and the entire island is obviously fake. So much so that its key features suffer from boring, artstation tier overdesign where if something is perilous, it needs to become cartoonishly retarded. Thank God CGI wasn't around when Evil Dead came out because it would definitely turn a 10/10 into a 6/10, which is what this one is.

Commendable efforts by mcadams and whatshisname.

Even PTA thought Weapons was one of the best releases of 2025 which surprised me as I didn't think someone like him was into horror at all. I thought it was really good, but I think some were disappointed that there were a few random comedy bits sprinkled in and I've read anons thought the ending was anti climactic for some reason and they were also disappointed that the mystery wasn't revealed to be some grand government conspiracy but was instead small scale with just a singular antagonist who could mind control people, "weaponize" them and steal away their life force energy to rejuvenate herself, which will probably disappoint the people who thought she was building herself an army of zombies. And I guess its non-linear narrative that changed protagonists roughly every half an hour similar to Pulp Fiction was divisive too (anons called it "pretentious").

Imo I think if you're always looking for that next scariest horror film ever, you're almost always going to end up disappointed no matter what and it's like every time a horror film gets praised some people think it gets praised solely due to how unbelievably scary it is and then they inevitably hype it up inside their own heads and feel let down afterwards.

Anyone help me with this movie I remember watching on Syfy way back when? Its about a serial killer, starts with a dad and daughter in their house, the girl is playing at a doll house, and after the lights flicker a man appears in the house and kills the dad. Cut to the present and its the girl as an adult. I cant recall the middle parts, but near the end when its in the final portion, the most prominent kill I recall is the girl's friend strapped to a table with medical equipment pumping her full of liquid, causing her to explode from the abdomen

YO i've been looking for a horror movie since I was a kid and I've never thought to ask anywhere or look it up because all I can remember is there was a scene where a guy goes into like a basement or a cellar or something and I think an electrical cord comes to life and starts choking him? I had the thought that it might have been an amityville or poltergeist movie but that's just a hunch. I figure it was like 80s or 90s or early 00s. I said the boar looked too cartoonish in the Send Help thread when it came out and got told I was stupid by a bunch of anons. At least someone finally agrees. I think it was supposed to be a subversion of the genre/expectations with her not being the good guy either but it seemed to kind of fall flat in that regard.

>In that case surely it shouldn't be borderline impossible then
I meant I can torrent The Evil Dead 1981 just fine. But if I want to find the exact version that was cut to shit by censors in the early 80s by the Swedish censorship board, that's gonna be nearly nearly impossible. I'm guessing it's same with the British.

If you just want the original Video Nasty list uncut then go ahead. There are some fantastic movies on there.

I'm watching it right now. The plane just crashed and I hate both main characters.
The dude is, of course, a jerk. It's a movie made in 2026, so that goes without saying.
But the chick is equally horrible, horribly entitled, completely unable to pick up on social cues, while refusing to change or take ownership of her shortcomings.
They're not going to, but I hope they both die.

You could also be thinking of Final Destination where that kid trips and falls in the bathtub and gets strangled by a clothes line that basically comes to life.
>>
>>219074517
She also becomes an entirely different character THE MOMENT the plane crashes. Like, sure, her coming into her own and growing/changing is largely the point, but it's an instant character switch. Zero build. Just a complete shift to "I'm confident, capable and don't take shit anymore."

They bros literally watch her "Survivor" audition tape on the plane right before it crashes. And show her at home being a huge fan, talking to her pet bird about before that lol

Filename. Portrait of God.

>>219076634
You mean the backrooms adaptation or the portrait of god adaptation? I just heard about the latter recently. I don't know that it has the content for a feature length movie, but I guess if it were very loosely adapted it could work.
>>
>>219076726
Sorry, second sentence was about Portrait. But yeah both are getting adaptions.
Unironically if you want to have a hollywood career, making a viral short horror film is the fastest way there.

this one might be weird for /hor/, but fits your description well:

this one is technically about a female monstrosity aswell:

If you are ok with a female monstrosity in a metaphorical sense, I would recommend these movies:

Jaws is pretty overrated, and even borderline corny today. But movies like Rosemary's Baby, The Exorcist, Texas Chain Saw Massacre, all still hold up tremendously well 50+ years later.

>>219053295
That movie would have to be better than the last flick I watched about dropbears.

>Even PTA thought Weapons was one of the best releases of 2025 which surprised me as I didn't think someone like him was into horror at all
He probably does since his dad was literally a late-night horror TV host known as Ghoulardi.
