Why cant Mother locate the Alien?
>>219050324right, because all ships come with xenomorph detectors
>>219050324Because Mother is shifty.
>>219050403basically. youd just need to monitor the air pressure of each sealed room. the room with the non-standard amount of expected air is the room with the xeno.youd be monitoring all the sealed chambers for air pressure already because, you know...leaks in space...kinda...bad news.
>>219050403Cant they just track movement? Seems like a logical installment for a spaceship
>>219050538yeah but the system doesnt no whats moving>>219050505>xeno walks into a room. air pressure changeswhy though?
>>219050559well if its actually sealed, and a living breathing being is inside, itll get warm as it breaths and exists in the room. warm air expands.
>>219050898why would it be sealed? people are moving all over the ship. only segments along the haul would be monitored for leaks so the xeno would have to be in a sealed segment along the haul to be detected and how the hell did it get into a sealed segment to begin with?
>>219050324You're very close to understanding that these things are exactly what made older movies and especially horror great. They didn't have perfect technology that could do any and everything in the blink of an eye. Almost no cameras, and when there were, they are bulky, blurry, imperfect, and prone to go out. Barely any sensors. Microphones suck. Interfaces suck. Computers in general suck and aren't the most useful things. AI like Muthur was almost useless and the human had to try a couple dozen times to get a useful answer from it. No cell phones or easy communication. In this they had to jerry rig motion sensors based on air pressure and even then it didn't read up or down so he couldn't tell it was below him. If they had all the conveniences of modern technology, it would be trivially easy to kill the alien and only extreme plot armor contrivances would keep it a threat.
>>219050962its a spaceship, anon. its not ALWAYS sealed, but you need to be able to seal it. a fire breaks out, a leak happens, deadly rocket fuel spills, you dont just go "welp thats half the ship, guess we ded".the titantic had sections it could seal off. its not a new idea.

>>219051068follow the thread before responding
>>219050324In the Aliens they fix this plothole with these gadgets
>>219051110No.
>>219051170It's not a plothole. And Aliens is six decades later, so it has more advanced technology.
>>219051120yeah? its 14 posts, anon, its not very long. keep up.
>boats and spaceships are alikewhat's the deal with this midwit scifi take
>>219051171Search thy feelings; thou knowest it to be true.
>>219051068if i intentionally seal a xeno in a room why the fuck would i be asking mother to locate it? its in the fucking room i just sealed
>>219051229That's how all of Hollywood has treated spaceships until very recently. Spaceships are just space boats sailong the stars and space combat is just ww2 dogfights.
>>219051170they had one in Alien. Ash claims it tracks micro changes in air density but Ripley doesnt believe that. Its subtly implied it tracks xenos specifically
It runs on Windows 31
>>219051332Kek why the fuck are you making shit up? Ripley doesn't disbelieve it. They test it right in the room on humans. And it doesn't "just" pick up xenos, it homes in on the fucking cat in the corridor. That's is why they have to go try to capture Jonesy, so it doesn't keep throwing off the detector, and that gets Brett killed since the detector doesn't see the xeno. It's a jerry rigged tool that doesn't work well and that's great for the scary story.
>>219050324It can, but decided not to
>>219051385I can't believe how bad they fucked it up after windows 30
>>219050898xenomorphs are exotherm?
>>219050538Anon, Nostromo is a commercial cargo hauled owned by a ... questionable conglomerate. Do you think it's more likely that:1. They have all the latest gucci kit on board, bells, whistles and all? Or2. Absolute bare minimum for compliance and on a maintenance schedule best described as "legal"?
>>219051441fair point about the cat but at some point Ripley says something along the lines of "micro changes my ass"
Because Space transcends borders, chud! Emphasis on the TRANS
>>219050324Wasn't the computer adjusted by the android so it would prioritize the capture of the alien over the survival of the crew? I swear there was a scene like that before the android turned genocidal.
>>219052446No. Ash never did anything to the computer. The company sent orders for the Captain to investigate the unknown signal and if any alien life is found to retrieve it. Crew is expendable if necessary. The science officer Ash also knows this since he replaced their normal science officer and was put there specifically for that mission. Ripley finds out when Captain Dallas dies and Ripley becomes Captain now having access to his files.
>>219051548>>219052446This. The MU/TH/UR is trying to help Alien survive and shield it from any harm crew can do. She doesnt care about the crew or it wellbeing
>>219051953I really hope the Alien Erf cast has seen these memes
>>219052507Cant they...just ask her where alien is?
>>219052790Did you not read the post? Her job is to get it back to the company alive. Why would she tell the crew so they could kill it?
